Shilpa Ray @ PIanos, 2/8/2014
Shilpla Ray

Harmonium abuser Shilpa Ray just wrapped up a short tour with a show in her hometown on Saturday (2/8) at Pianos. The run of dates was in support of her newish It's All Self-Fellatio EP which came out back in October on Nick Cave's Bad Seed Ltd. label. If you haven't heard that, you can stream a track from that below.

Saturday's show also featured Roadside Graves, Rosy Street and Jamboree Sunday. Pics from the whole night at Pianos are in this post.

You'll have another chance to catch Shilpa in her hometown this month when she plays Trans Pecos on 2/26 (915 Wyckoff Ave) with Larkin Grimm and Gretchen Lohse. Tickets are on sale now. More info on that show, plus more Pianos pics, below...

You've linked up top there to something opened by "Ridgewood Social". I have no idea who that is.

Shilpa's music is sheer dark lyrical brilliance. Wish I was there.

Shilpa Ray. A fucking boss. One of the best live acts in the city, and has been for years.

But why the fk did they lead with that photo? She's a feral, sensual beauty to boot. Can't tell from that pic though.

Shilpa Ray. Nick Cave approved. For good reason. He knows a hell of a lot more than Pitchfork. I ga-run-tee.

These comments are all so nice for BV !

Shilpa just brings out the best in folk.
Where are the loser haters?

There are many poseurs in the arts.

Shilpa Ray is not one of them.

Miss her at your own risk.

Who else can claim they've played a Manhattan fencing studio AND opened for Manu Chao? No one. That's who. You go girl.

Pretty cool that she got Tom Waits to be in her backing band.

If there is any justice in the world, the day will come when nobody believes you when you claim to have seen Shilpa Ray up close and intimate like this. Let's bring her back again & again while we can!

I can't tell which I love more: the raunchy punked-out blues or the wistful-bittersweet ballads. But it all comes down to those lyrics and that voice: that voice.
