Cities Aviv at Cake Shop in 2013 (more by Chris Gersbeck)
Cities Aviv

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight's shows, but here are some highlights...

The Casket Girls, The Stargazer Lilies, Creepoid, Dreamend @ Shea Stadium
The Casket Girls' lineup features Ryan Graveface of Black Moth Super Rainbow, but the group's fronted by Elsa and Phaedra Greene. Their distorted pop should be familiar to BMSR fans though. Also of note on the bill is Creepoid, who do justice to '90s-style slowcore.

Mike Birbiglia @ Union Hall
Mike Birbiglia plays big rooms these days but still loves testing out new material at cozy Union Hall. Sold out.

Pastimer, Ovlov (acoustic), Ben Mackie @ Cameo Gallery
Ovlov bring their Dinosaur Jr-isms to life in NYC venues quite often, but tonight you'll get to see a different side of them as they strip things down for an acoustic show.

MV & EE (2 Sets, FREE) @ Baby's All Right
Experimental duo (and sometimes more than a duo) MV & EE begin their "Aquarian Shade residency" at Baby's All Right tonight. They play 2 sets, both free, and then do it again next Monday too.

Cities Aviv @ Baby's All Right
Alt-rapper Cities Aviv is more than a regular on the NYC live show circuit, but tonight's a bit more special, as it's the release party for his new album, Come to Life.

Night Train @ Littlefield
Tonight Wyatt Cenac's weekly Night Train comedy show will be guest hosted by The Kondabolu Brothers. Joining them for the show is Sasheer Zamata, Phoebe Robinson, Nimesh Patel, George Gordon, Giulia Rozzi, and Roy Wood Jr.

For all of tonight's shows, and tomorrow's, check out our NYC concert calendar.

For laughs, check out the NYC Comedy calendar too.

No iPods? That is a band with REAL diversity from track to track...

Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2014 9:36 AM

Ashamed to admit I actually laughed at 9:36...

no Grimes? :(

Posted by hguhf jgfds | February 17, 2014 10:02 AM

Why are people asking about Grimes? (TWICE in this single post, seems unnecessary). She has not announced a tour yet . . . soon I hope though! Saw her a couple years ago and a great show, better even than on record.

Krill! Krill! Krill forever! Krill! Krill! Forever and ever!

Saw Grimes at pitchfork fest a few years ago! Was cool to be there for that.

Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2014 10:41 AM

I saw Grimes at Glasslands two years ago. It was a special evening.

Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2014 10:47 AM

Glasslands?! Would have liked to see that! Am I stupid if I don't get this iPod joke? Someone posted virtually the same thing on another post...

^@10:55 WELCOME TO THE INTERNET

Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2014 10:57 AM

This is 10:55. 10:57, why so harsh? I am new to the site and this seems to be a running joke . . . one that I don't understand. This seems like a cool community -- albeit with a few bad apples -- and I am just trying to figure out the running jokes, etc! It's a holiday, so relax.

Anyone know where I can get tickets for this new band called the Aztec Monkeys or something like that? They seem kind of punky and fun and I would like to attend one of their concerts. Thank you.

Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2014 11:08 AM

It's the Arctic Monkeys and they DO put on a great show. They have been around a while, but they are only now getting huge in America - so sort of a "new" band here. Unfortunately, I don't see any upcoming tour dates in the area, but check out their site for upcoming dates and stuff: http://www.arcticmonkeys.com/. Hope this helps!

^ oh I totally knew the iPods jerkoff was an AM fan! People we may have lost an entire generation to the ill effects of Dumbass.

Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2014 11:41 AM

11:41 - it seems like 11:20 was just trying to be helpful? We might not all like the same bands, but that is what makes these discussions interesting.

Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2014 11:57 AM

yeah, 11:41 that was out of line. There is a difference between #bigboytalk and straight vitriol.

Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2014 12:14 PM

its dumb but i laughed at that stupid ipods joke

Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2014 12:15 PM

Seeing as the iPods guy continues his shtick even though it is clearly causing pain and suffering to at least one reader (which is publicly documented) there really is no basis for crying foul play over a few inarticulate words that are pretty far from causing similar harm. I think that we all need to relax a bit and gain some perspective, and maybe stop knowingly causing physical discomfort just so we can repeat some idiotic phrase because we feel like it. There is legal precedent that one does not have the 1st Amendment right to yell fire in a crowded movie theater. We should all cease from behavior that knowingly causes harm.

Saw Grimes at the Echo in LA awhile back. Amazing show. There was almost a riot there were so many people there who wanted to get in!

Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2014 12:34 PM

I saw Grimes at Music Hall of Williamsburg. Great show! Is she coming back here soon?

Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2014 12:35 PM

Which is the best Grimes album?

Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2014 12:36 PM

That is a funny image, people rioting to get in to see Grimes.

Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2014 12:49 PM

I am a 28 year old man and I still listen to Grimes. Not ashamed to admit it.

Posted by Anonymous | February 17, 2014 12:52 PM
