Seattle’s Wild Throne used to be called Dog Shredder, which was less than optimal for reasons which should be obvious. They now run the risk of being confused with the all the other “wild” bands out there, but it’s still a step in the right direction.

And none of that matters when you sit down to listen to their upcoming 12″ Blood Maker, which is an absolute ripper. These guys split the difference between At the Drive-In and early Mastodon. They play winding, technically-inclined heavy rock that draws on metal but doesn’t belong to it; guitarist/vocalist Josh Holland delivers his lyrics in a wild, emotive howl. It’s unpredictable, high-energy, catchy-as-fuck stuff.

So far, Wild Throne have debuted two of the EP’s three tunes — its title track “Blood Maker” appeared via Stereogum this week, while a second tune, “Shadow Deserts,” is available via their Bandcamp. You can stream both tracks below.

Blood Maker will be out via Brutal Panda on March 4. Wild Throne will also be performing at SXSW; stay tuned for more details on that front…
