Yellow Ostrich @ Pianos - 2/12/14

With an album titled Cosmos, that's almost an eerie coincidence. But truth be told, the whole album sounded fantastic. The record has connections to space littered throughout. Some of them are obvious (there are tracks titled "My Moons" and "You Are The Stars"), and others hide messages within the lyrics. It's definitely a louder album compared to earlier Yellow Ostrich material, and they even included some stuff using a drum pad and synths, the textured sounds really played to great effect. From start to finish, this is a finely crafted album that doesn't let you go. Alex Schaaf's vocals are as good as ever here, and the whole group was like a well-oiled machine. [Charged.fm]
Yellow Ostrich are set to release their new album, Cosmos, next week (2/25) via Barsuk, but those who attended their intimate, mostly-private show at Pianos last week (2/12) got to hear the album performed in full. We caught the show, and pictures of it are in this post. You can also stream the album in full over at AV Club.

Yellow Ostrich play a larger NYC show, which will be much easier to get into, when their tour hits Bowery Ballroom on April 4 with Pattern Is Movement. Tickets for that show are still available.
