Connan Mockasin @ Glasslands in January (more by P Squared)

As charming as he is eccentric, New Zealand's Connan Mockasin is the genuine article, whether making quirky guitar pop (2011's Forever Dolphin Love) or deep shag slow jams (last year's Caramel). He's even better live, and he'll be in Austin this week for SXSW (full schedule below), including the Saturday BrooklynVegan free day party. (For the rest of us, he's touring later this spring.) Leading up to this week's fun, Connan answered 5 QUESTIONS:

1) What is your favorite venue to play in the country and why?

St Morinteen is nice. it's just beautiful, truly beautiful!

more below...

2) Tell us about the worst show you've ever played.

it was in march 2005 in a place called Dunedin. it was called The Toga Party, where first year university students to get together and dress in sheets. Two thousand of them screaming abuse and throwing things at us. it was just awful.

3) What are some albums that you guys have been spinning in the van lately?

nothing in particular. sometimes we get given some music to listen to which is nice. Tommy and the fallen horses, Miho Wada. i've been enjoying Rorys 'Collumn' record over dinner, it's really nice.

4) What would your metal band name be?

5) Be honest: how often do you change your clothes on tour?

i wash them in hotels. good question though!

The video is cool though it's a kind of cliche. But I like this.
