Anwar Sadat on tour, playing NYC shows w/ Vaz, Greg Fox, mems of Zs, Swans & more this weekend (dates & LP stream)

by Andrew Sacher

Anwar Sadat

Anwar Sadat, the Louisville band not the Egyptian president, are a heavy, discordant post-punk trio with short, angry songs that never forget the “punk” in “post-punk.” Think Big Black/The Jesus Lizard meets Wire, and you might get an idea. Or for something more modern, they also sound like a crazier Iceage. Their most recent album, Gold, came out last year via Sophomore Lounge — it’s 8 songs in under 15 minutes, and can be streamed in full below or downloaded (name your price) at bandcamp.

The band is currently on a tour which wraps up in NYC this weekend with two shows, both with excellent lineups. FIrst, they’ll hit Bowery Electric on Saturday (3/29) with Patrick Higgins (of Zs), Algis Kizys (ex-Swans) (who will be joined by Norman Westberg [currently of Swans], Vincent Signorelli [Unsane, Foetus] and Lynn Wright) and Fangs (aka Sonic Youth/Swans producer Martin Bisi joined by members of Phantom Family Halo and Eula). Tickets for that show are available.

Then they play Death by Audio on Sunday (3/30) with noise crew Vaz, Greg Fox’s insane drum-driven Guardian Alien, and shoegazy punks The Library Is On Fire.

All remaining dates are listed, with the LP stream and a live video, below…
