Dum Dum Girls @ MHOW 3/26/2013
Dum Dum Girls

Dum Dum Girls' tour with Blouse rolled through NYC, making sold-out stops at Bowery Ballroom on Tuesday (3/25) and Music Hall of Williamsburg last night (3/26). Pictures from MHOW are in this post. Against a neon blue heart, Dee Dee and the rest of the gang rattled through an hour set drawn from all their records (including this year's Too True), plus their cover of Pale Saints "Sight of You." Setlist is in this post.

Blouse was a well matched opener, their agreeably gloomy pop brightened by psychedelic, oilpaint-esque projections. Their second album, Imperium, has been a grower for me and I was glad to finally get to see them play those songs live. Good set. The night started early with Young Boys whose singer has definitely watched live footage of The Cramps and The Birthday Party. Pics from their sets, and more from Dum Dum Girls, below.

so ... i have a question. i thought i read something around the time this most recent ddg album came out that the main dum dum girl, i think it's dee dee dum dum, is the one who does everything on the albums, and the other dummies are just along for the live shows. is that true? is it sorta like an lcd kinda thing? james used to do pretty much everything in the studio, and then the band would come together for live shows. just wondering.

Dee Dee write and records everything a lot of the time with the help of Sune Rose Wagner of The Ravonettes.

I believe the only record all four ladies recorded their parts was the Only In Dreams record. Everyone lives in California except for Dee Dee.

Young Boys are ok musically, but no one in that band can sing, and not in a charming can't-sing kind of way. Really awful voices.

Q: What's the worst part about seeing a band called Blouse in concert?

A: Having to tell your dad that you're gay.
