Fujiya & Miyagi ready 'Artificial Sweetners' (stream a track)

by Bill Pearis

IMAGEFujiya & Miyagi return with their fifth album, Artificial Sweeteners, on May 6 via Yep Roc. The record is their most synth-heavy yet, but otherwise keeps their brand of motorik funk pretty much intact. As to the album’s title, says frontman David Best:

Artificial Sweeteners is about what’s being expressed more in hope rather than in fact. Believing things will get better allows us to get through what life throws at us. The music aims to be life affirming and positive, offering an escape route from reality. I think taking enjoyment from the pleasurable aspects of life that counteract all the stress and anxieties is the best way to live.

You can get a taste of Artificial Sweetners‘ opening cut, “Flaws,” which is streaming below.
