Future Punx at 285 Kent last year

Brooklyn's Future Punx just put out their first 7" via Dull Tools, and its songs "999" and "Living in a Movie" are two terrific slices of 1980-style synthy new wave. (Think Devo, Oingo Boingo, Wall of Voodoo.) You can stream it below and buy it tonight (3/7) at the band's release party at Death by Audio. It's a family affair with likeminded band Final Bloom, plus fellow Dull Tools labelmates Eaters opening, and Andrew Savage (who co-runs the label when not fronting Parquet Courts) on DJ duty. $7 at the door.

Future Punx have a few more shows coming up, including the BrooklynVegan-presented La Femme show at Glasslands on March 23 with Regal Degal playing as well (plus yours truly on DJ duty). Tickets are still available. They'll also open for Parquet Courts at Bed Stuy's Sugarhill Supper Club on June 11 (details on that show TBA). All upcoming Future Punx shows are listed below.

Eaters

Duo Eaters, meanwhile, will release their debut album on Dull Tools/Driftless Recordings on April 22. Bob Jones and Jonathan Schenke met while touring with Frankie Rose and bonded over a love of early synthwave, motorik grooves and tape experiments. Jones was a founding member of Eternal Tapestry and Schenke engineered Parquet Courts' Light Up Gold. If you dig John Carpenter soundtracks and darkwave type stuff, the album is pretty cool. You can stream "Far" below.

And since we're on the subject of Dull Tools, the label will release Dental Denial, the new album from Austin's Beth Israel, on March 17. Not unlike Detroit's Protomartyr, the band do spare, jagged postpunk really well and use "bleak" as a positive. You can stream the whole album below. The band will be playing shows during SXSW so if you're going, keep an eye out.

And not to leave them out Final Bloom don't have much music out there at them moment -- just a couple demos on their Soundcloud -- but they're fully in the synthwave sonic landscape. Stream one of those demos below.
