Scott Asheton (the Stooges) @ Baltimore Virgin Fest 2008 (more by Bao Nguyen)

My dear friend Scott Asheton passed away last night.

Scott was a great artist, I have never heard anyone play the drums with more meaning than Scott Asheton. He was like my brother. He and Ron have left a huge legacy to the world. The Asheton's have always been and continue to be a second family to me.

My thoughts are with his sister Kathy, his wife Liz and his daughter Leanna, who was the light of his life.

- Iggy Pop

Scott "Rock Action" Asheton was a founding member of The Stooges and was part of the band's reformation in 2003 and played on their most recent album which came out last year. His brother and Stooges guitarist Ron Asheton died in 2009. You be missed greatly but the music lives on. Rest in peace, Scott.

Saw him and Ron around 2004ish? One of the few big reunions that actually managed to pull it off. Great show, legendary dummer.

damn. i wonder what the cause was? i saw the stooges a few years back and they were incredible. is this the end of the stooges or does iggy find a replacement drummer to keep on touring?

Posted by Anonymous | March 16, 2014 10:55 PM

^ Stooges have toured with a replacement drummer for the last 2 years

Hey 915 shut your stupid mouth.

10:55 I believe he had a stroke a few years ago. So probably something related to that. Stooges are not touring this year but had plans to go back in 2015. Iggy looked really fit at Tibet House thing last week- I'd be surprised if he and James Williamson didn't soldier on........

an angel got his wings

the stooges RIP. let it go, iggy.

I hope Iggy does the right thing and retires the Stooges name.

Posted by Anonymous | March 17, 2014 10:59 AM

or revert to Iggy Pop & James Williamson

You'll be missed. The Stooges really bought the fuckin' rawk!

Both Ashetons left us too soon despite years of hard living. Really gave it their all.

RIP.

Anyone notice all the corrections the NY Times had to make with their article? Like that paper ever gave a shit about The Stooges back in the day. It shows with their shoddy fact checking. Was Jason Blair in the editing room?

Re: the jackass who posted "should've been watt."

I speak for literally everyone in the world when I say it should have been you.

Beyond trolling. Everyone hates you. Happy now?
