The Rapture @ House of Vans, 2012 (more by Fred Pessaro)Rapture

One nugget of information in the Red Bull Music Academy press release -- as part of the William Onyeabor tribute -- they refer to Luke Jenner as "formerly of The Rapture." We didn't think much of it -- just sort of assumed that was old news -- but apparently they had broken up on the sly. Self Titled mag got in touch with DFA domo Jonathan Galkin who confirmed:

"I kept thinking it might blow over," label manager Jonathan Galkin said, "but that might not be the case. Feel free to go to press with this headline: 'Did the Rapture Break Up and Not Tell Anyone?'"
Not even a goodbye show! We'll miss ya, The Rapture. Head below for the song that put them -- and DFA -- on the map, "House of Jealous Lovers"...

Thanks, dad. Your weak farts still stink up the universe.

Great band. I feel fortunate to have seen them tour for all 3 of their albums and they honestly only got better as the time passed. They will be missed. Look forward to their inevitable reunion tour.

They were good for about one year circa 2001-ish.

I guess Luke Jenner has been busy trying to get rid of his lisp. Good luck with that bro!

How about a "City Memory Lane" subway stop?

The time I saw them play a couple years ago, they sounded amazing.
Sorry to hear this news

They were a really great live band. Glad I got to see them.

And unlike a lot of the other early 00s acts their most recent album was pretty good.

Overrated trash. One schlocky song plus the dude is a fuckin' Jenner.

They will be forgotten in a few years. Case closed.

@8:05 #2 - Gotta say I agree with you. Anyway, it shits all over the mumbly "beardo who recorded in a cabin in the woods" nonsense that passes for "indie rock" these days.

You know who we'll never forget is still together? Waxahatchee. Thanks Andrew Sachar.

Remember when they opened for Daft Punk at the ballpark at Coney Island? That's a gig I would not want.

Why do people write 'who?' in the comments--do they really not know who the band is, but are genuinely curious? Or are they sarcastically saying 'who?' as in 'this band is so irrelevant that I don't even care about them!' But, if that's the case, why take the time to write 'who?' in the comments section? The world is mysterious.

For the record: I have no opinion about this band, but am looking forward to hearing from those who will miss them, and those who HATE THEM enough to write about it in this thread. Thanks in advance.

^-----This guy makes me want to twist my own penis off and shove that penis so far down my throat that it comes out the hole from which I originally twisted it.

My song of the day.. or week... or... anyway, it's fantastic and the new album from The Rapture will be on heavy rotation during the next...months.

11:28: As much as I think the "Who?" comments are annoying, I myself am guilty of it a little bit. But I only do it if it's on someone I really have never heard of and only if the article suggests/implies we all knew who the artist was (which usually is not the case, anyway).

The Rapture was awesome, Echoes is great straight through, the next two albums were also good, only got to see them once though at the Curiosa festival, this news is not Earth shattering but they were good while they lasted

Who?

Posted by Anonymous | March 10, 2014 12:05 PM

great live show back in the day. i feel super old

The Rapture were okay, they had they're moments but Luke Jenner was a class prick. I conversed with him on several occasions and he never ceased to be a total ass wipe.
