Thurston at Fun Fun Fun Fest 2013 (more by Tim Griffin)
Thurston

Last year, Kim Gordon talked to Elle about her divorce with Thurston Moore, and now in an interview with The Fly, Thurston has finally discussed it too:

"I've had some life issues," he said. "In your 40s and 50s things can change in ways that upset the order of things that have been established over 25 years-plus of marriage. It's really distressing. You have to work through it, it's very personal and I don't really talk about it so much. It's extremely... it's just something I work through in my own world."

Moore is now living in London with Eva Prinz, the woman Gordon referred to in the interview. Of his new relationship, he said:

"I'm involved in a really sweet relationship and it really does make me happy, it truly does. But I'll always have that experience of sadness that a separation brings, especially one that was as important, not just to me but everybody around us. There have been some fall-outs, but that's to be expected. It's pretty heavy."

He continued: "I'm in a really romantic place with Eva; we've kinda been a couple for close to six years. A lot of those years nobody was very aware of it except us. The cat's been out of the bag a while now, that's kinda where I'm at."

let the negative comments begin...

ps in all honestly, do you think they'll play nyc one last time?

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2014 1:21 PM

their last nyc was williamsburg park show right? i remember that show like it was yesterday! old school set!

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2014 1:21 PM

yeah, it sucks, and sadly all too common. last show would've been the williamsburg park one, yes. was a great set.

i do hope they can get through the personal stuff in time and play music together again.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2014 1:30 PM

I think the set at Battery Park for free on July 4th a couple years before was even better. Stull like "Bull In The Heather" and lots of less-played material was in that set. And the newer "Pink Steam", which rules.

No negative comments. It's a personal issue so let it be between the parties involved.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2014 1:31 PM

When Oasis toured, Liam and Noel would go entire tours without talking to each other. Plenty of big bands operate this way.

You can do it, SY.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2014 1:32 PM

If the Pixes can tour without Kim Deal, then Sonic Youth can tour without Kim Gordon. Easily. That said, Thurston is an ass.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2014 1:41 PM

1:31: Well, I guess one comment after yours was a good run.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2014 1:44 PM

Doubt a 30+ year relationship could be "put aside" just so people who they dont know can get their rocks off "one last time".

Typical selfish me-generation, I keep seeing this bullshit everywhere, stuff like:

"Hey guys we are going on tour"

"PLAY MY TOWN THAT ISNT LISTED OR IS ANYWHERE NEAR YOUR TOUR ROUTE"

"Hey guys we are in a very heavy situation in our personal lives"

"PLAY A SHOW WHO CARES ABOUT YOUR LIFE"

You all are fucking self-important, selfish assholes. Stop making it all about you.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2014 1:45 PM

agree that the battery park set was tremendous. the one a few years later at prospect park was up there too. really miss their outdoor summer nyc shows.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2014 1:46 PM

SY had a fantastic 30 year run. Innovators who stand in a league of their own. There are few bands / artists left who can claim to have pioneered such an influential and original sound. It's doubtful another act like this will come along again in our lifetime. Yeah, it's sad regarding the split but they made their mark. There's no point in a reunion unless they're all on-board and are excited about doing it. Otherwise what's the point? Money? If that were the case then it would probably suck anyway.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2014 1:57 PM

if you weren't at the williamsburg park show you messed up.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2014 1:57 PM

There is no nice way to say "I cheated on my wife with a younger woman." But before you all start throwing stones, remember that Thurston's now in the same club as Bruce Springsteen, who never seemed to catch much flak for his infidelity.

Posted by Jim Testa | March 4, 2014 1:57 PM

SY + NY = :)

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2014 1:58 PM

What a world class piece of garbage. I didn't respect my wife enough to break up with her before I started banging the younger model. So in love right now guys, so seriously be respectful.

Posted by dddude | March 4, 2014 2:10 PM

@1:57 the difference was nobody knew or cared who Springsteen's 1st wife was

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2014 2:11 PM

Shout out to the playboy Thirsty Thurston! There is no shame in breaking up with your wife to bang the younger model. That's shits called g-a-m-e.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2014 2:22 PM

Thurston is the new Boss. Same as the old Boss.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2014 2:22 PM

When asked "Cant you tell when a marriage has just droned on forever and should just end already?" Moore replied "Havent you ever heard one of my songs?"

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2014 2:28 PM

She's not a model, she's a book editor. And if they really wanted to make it work they would have, but they were clearly unhappy together. It ran its course, and so did Sonic Youth.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2014 2:29 PM

".. it's just something I work through in my own world.""

Or when you literally assault your fans with a carelessly planned noise set.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2014 2:31 PM

2:229 pump your breaks there young fella. We said THE younger model, not A younger model.

Thirsty aint got that kinda game.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2014 2:33 PM

A couple for 6 years? Poor Kim.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2014 2:44 PM

Thurston's comment on the break up "Women my age arent really into ass play as a rule and also have scary, challenging ideas and self esteem. Do not want, how's your relationship with your father little girl?"

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2014 2:55 PM

haha 2:28

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2014 3:09 PM

"You all are fucking self-important, selfish assholes. Stop making it all about you."

I dunno, you come off as pretty (pseudo)self-important to me. Most comments seem to be just playing around, as opposed to pretending like they're above everyone else.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2014 3:17 PM

1:57 agreed. If that's the last time I see Sonic Youth, it was a pretty fucking awesome way to go out. All kinds of deep cuts from the old records.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2014 3:19 PM

2;28 ftw

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2014 4:16 PM

wouldn't call homeboy a #1 city boy since he lived in West Mass for like 15-20 years.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2014 5:17 PM

^and always kept a residence in the city and was here all the time doofus.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2014 5:37 PM

so part-time #1 city boy then?

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2014 5:48 PM

Yeah Thurston! Get the pussy and don't let haters drag you down.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2014 6:08 PM

Shocking he would cop to a 6 year affair to the press as he works through it in his own world... poor Thurston. Nice touch was bombarding Kim's wounds with salt by gloating about how romantic of a place he's in. Meanwhile, there's been more recent appearances from SY disciples around the city in the past 2 months than there's been of SY in the past 10 years.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2014 6:09 PM

I wish there was a band in this city actually doing cool stuff with guitars. Few and far between. I'm talking down n' dirty, not some jive-ass post-rock bullshit.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2014 6:20 PM

Bring
Back
Bob
Bert.

Problem solved.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2014 6:32 PM

Bob Pert? How the fuck would that solve the problem? I adore SY. But Thurston could have taken a slightly more high-road and not been so frank/curt about a six-year romance. Not too kool at all.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2014 6:49 PM

get kim deal to play with sy. her name is kim, she needs a band, she plays bass and she is a little chunky.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2014 7:01 PM

@1:31:

"No negative comments. It's a personal issue so let it be between the parties involved."

But it's ok for these two douche bags to drone on about *it* publicly?

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2014 8:00 PM

@7:01 - Kim Deal has a band. Look it up.

Posted by Montie | March 4, 2014 10:22 PM

you have to live in nyc for 10 years to be considered a local. 3 years if you are worth more than $20 million.

Posted by Anonymous | March 4, 2014 11:07 PM

***TRUTH***

Kim was a dry hag. Thurston did what he had to do.

Posted by ***READ THIS*** | March 5, 2014 2:41 AM

What would Yung Lean do?

Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2014 5:36 AM

@5:37 Sure, broham needs a fuck pad, dont he? You cant keep young trim happy living that rural, AARP life.

Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2014 7:34 AM

So Thurston confirmed it. He is living in domestic bliss with Jim O'Rourke's sloppy seconds. Meanwhile Kim's got herself three boy toys.

Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2014 8:06 AM

how long until Thurston moves on to a younger ho? once a cheater, always a cheater.

Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2014 9:38 AM

"I'm in a really romantic place with Eva; we've kinda been a couple for close to six years."

Six years. 2014 - 6 = 2008.

On 2 March 2009 in a civil ceremony in New York City, he married Eva Marie Valdez, an editor, who has worked for several New York publishing houses, including Rizzoli. She had previously been married to Andrew Michael Prinz.

Wtf....?

Take a good look at Kim these days. Can you blame him?

Posted by Anonymous | March 5, 2014 1:31 PM

god damn i clicked on the link...dat nigga thurston looks like a motherfukkin white raisin. you know his dick be lookin like a beggin strip.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2014 1:45 AM

I hope Thurston enjoys his Goo-like whirlwind romantic fantasies while it lasts. Eva and relationships don't get along. It's only a matter of time before she shit cans him for someone else.

Posted by Anonymous | March 6, 2014 8:29 AM

so he was already cheating while they were recording The Eternal?

Posted by greg | March 7, 2014 12:42 PM

hard to believe that's just one guitar and drums, epic as fuck
