Wild Beasts @ MHOW 3/4/2014
Wild Beasts

Wild Beasts are visiting the U.S. currently, playing release shows on either coast for their terrific fourth album, Present Tense. The quartet did an in-store at Other Music on Monday (3/3) and last night (3/4) played a very packed Music Hall of Williamsburg. Pictures and setlist are in this post.

With synthesizers at the forefront on Present Tense, the band's live show took a little rewiring, with two banks of keyboards dividing the stage into thirds, with frontmen Hayden Thorpe and Tom Flemming splitting their time between bass, guitars and keys. The same was true with lead guitarist Ben Little. The band's very emotive performance style works better with instruments strapped to them than keyboards at this point, but Thorpe and Flemming's voices were in top form and the crowd very into it. In particular, the guy yelling "FUCK YEAH WILD BEASTS" was very, very into it.

Though Present Tense has only been out for a week, folks knew the songs, cheering for "A Simple Beautiful Truth" and the dark n' dubby "Daughters." The biggest cheers still came from Two Dancers tracks such as "Hooting & Howling" and "All the Kings Men," the latter of which was introduced by Fleming as, "Remember the worst sex you ever had, with the worst person you've ever known, in the worst place you've ever been? This is about that."

The Range, who has been getting a lot of choice opening slots lately, kicked off the evening. He'll be playing a bazillion SXSW shows next week, and will tour with Chvrches after that (including their sold-out T5 shows). All upcoming The Range dates, plus pics from his MHOW set and more of Wild Beasts', below...

I'm the guy in the batman shirt in the last photo. It was a great show and the best part was getting a fist bump from Hayden.

the best part of a superb musical performance was a fist bump? you are a tool.

Wild Beats is a good band, but I do not think that Wild Beats can beat Patti Smith band.
