The waves of SXSW hit the Eastern Seaboard last week, with loads of bands from around the world stopping through NYC after Austin. (They’re still coming, too.) Among them: rising UK band Woman’s Hour who are signed to Secretly Canadian and will release their debut album later this year. They hit the city for two shows, playing Mercury Lounge on March 19 and Glasslands on March 21.

While not the most exciting band to watch, Woman’s Hour singer Fiona Jane was in fine form at Glasslands, and when there was vocal interplay with the other members of the band things definitely took off. Bonus: their cover of Bruce Springsteen’s “Dancing in the Dark” was pretty sweet. (Joe’s Pub would probably be an ideal place to see their brand of chilled-out R&B.) It was an overall nice evening of mellow sounds and strong voices, with Norwegian singer Jenny Hval on the bill as well. You can catch her again when she opens for Swans in May.

The evening was opened by locals The Future of What. Pictures of them, as well as more of Woman’s Hour and Jenny Hval, below…
