Gramercy in 2012 (more by Greg Cristman)
Gramercy

We recently mentioned that most of the shows at NYC venue Gramercy Theatre were cancelled due to the 'A Night With Janis Joplin' residency, which was moving to that venue from Broadway. Now it looks like all of those shows have been cancelled (or postponed indefinitely) too. via The Associated Press:

Fans of "A Night With Janis Joplin" will just have to hold on, hold on.

Producers said Wednesday they have had to postpone indefinitely the off-Broadway opening "due to production issues." The show made a splash on Broadway in October and was to open Thursday at the smaller Gramercy Theatre in Chelsea.

Refunds for the shows will be available at point of purchase.

The Gramercy Theatre schedule is now looking very empty.

Goodbye Gramercy, Hello Condos!

I want to see Napalm Death on Broadway.

this show is deader than she is

Awful venue. Tearing it down for condos would be an improvement.

2 hours of oversinging the blues - sign me up

Haven't seen a show there in years. It's too bad. The venue has potential. Just let those douchebags at live nation run it into the ground like they are doing with Irving plaza.

Gramercy Theatre in Chelsea? Kinda on the other side of town.

Posted by Anonymous | April 10, 2014 1:28 PM

@1:21, you speak my language. I was just at Irving Plaza last night, and in thinking about what a miserable experience it was (aside from the actual music), I thought maybe I was just getting old.

"Napalm Death, the musical" coming soon...

Gramercy Theatre in Chelsea - this is how much you can trust info coming from lamestream media...

This place is horrible and needs a renovation. Irving Plaza used to be solid, now its a joke.

What do you guys have against Gramercy? Aside from the lame bookings, the fact that the floor slopes down allows for everyone to see.

Posted by Anonymous | April 10, 2014 2:17 PM

All the people who complain about Bowery Presents should be forced to see shows solely at Livenation venues.

Live music venues are slowly going away...

There is really no explanation for the utter failure of this venue other than the incompetence of its management.

Its a excellent club inside. The location is good. The sound is good. The combination of the slanted floor and upper seating area makes it a good place to actually see a show.

Someone with a brain should buy this place, hire a venue manager and a booker with experience and know-how, and this place could succeed. Otherwise, its just simply a money sink for LiveNation to use as a red ink holding to reduce its corporate taxes.

She's dead.

Last show was Madlib and Freddie Gibbs. Good show and nice space, a real shame that its not updated and being used.

Posted by Anonymous | April 10, 2014 2:58 PM

apparently live nation has been unable to find the cure for heroin overdose.

Posted by Anonymous | April 10, 2014 3:13 PM

The sound at this place is good? Give me a break. I've been to 4 or 5 shows there and the sound has been awful every time. Also, venues this size shouldn't have such a big barrier.

Posted by Anonymous | April 10, 2014 3:22 PM

Live Nation & Bowery Presents should trade T5 & Grammercy.

Posted by Anonymous | April 10, 2014 3:29 PM

Napalm Death..The Musical

"The blast beats will floor you"

"Yes that was a 5 second song"

"Broadway has never seen sausages like these"

Posted by Anonymous | April 10, 2014 4:18 PM

A waste of a great space. Naysayers need to stay packed in at their beloved T5 or stay on the other side of the East River. That said, Bowery Presents continues to destroy all competition.

Saw Homeboy Sandman and YC the Cynic there in January. Excellent show, great vibes. Not enough good shit booked there.

LiveNation gets crappy club bookings. Bowery has a lock on pretty much anything good, at least for bands that play at club and midlevel venues.

This is an excellent venue. I saw a Hard Day's Night there and all the girls were screaming. I wore an onion on my belt, which was the style at the time....

Last show I saw there that was totally worthy was three years ago, when Elvis Costello did his late night April Fools gig. Good night.
