A lot of young contemporary death metal bands fall over themselves in their efforts to imitate the old guard, but when bands like Master are still active, what's the point? This Chicago-by-way-of-Moravia institution has technically been around since 1983; main man Paul Speckmann is about as O.G. death metal as they get.

When Master last tried to tour the US in 2011, they encountered visa problems and had to cancel. Three years and two albums later, they're making another run at it this April and May. Their tour hits NYC at Saint Vitus on 4/18 with largely local support from Insatanity, Fist Hammer, Nervo Chaos, Hate Storm Annihilation, & Netherion. That's...that's a lot of opening bands. Tickets for that show are on sale now; given the length of the bill, you might want to bring a snack.

Five opening bands?! Ridiculous. I hate when promoters over book shows with too many bands. This just shortens all the sets and makes the evening boringly long. IMO if it's not a festival then four bands on a bill should be the max.

I really admire the songs of master and how they perform live because their songs are really heavy.
