Williamsburg Park last year (more by Dylan Johnson)
Williamsburg Park

As touched on in the Northside Festival lineup additions we just posted, the annual Northside Festival (June 12-19) will be hosting concerts at what-used-to-be Williamsburg Park at North 12th and Kent in North Williamsburg, Brooklyn. The name of the venue has changed to 50 Kent which much like 285 Kent is named after its actual address. June 13 and 14 shows with The War on Drugs ($20 adv, $25 day of) and Beirut ($35 adv and day of), which are happening during the actual Northside Festival, will kick off " a summer-long Northside Summer Concert Series at 50 Kent", though no other shows as part of that series have been announced yet.

The competition for shittiest NYC venue continues!

"Hey this waterfront concert area is amazing with beautiful views, what could we do to improve it...? I know! Let's block the view of the water and the gorgeous skyline, make everything concrete and call it a park! fucking genius!"

How in the world are the War on Drugs big enough to play a paid show here?

Posted by Anonymous | April 16, 2014 10:16 AM

Beirut 15 dollars more than War On Drugs?

Posted by Anonymous | April 16, 2014 10:18 AM

285 Kent wasn't actually 285 Kent's real address

that said: nice coat tail riding, corporate promoter / parks department alliance. you guys are cool

Posted by Anonymous | April 16, 2014 11:12 AM

Can we get to these shows with Northside Festival's music pass?

Posted by Julien | April 16, 2014 11:18 AM

I will never see a show there... The worst venue ever. Like a f'n each chamber!
Hot cement, no view, who cares!

Posted by Duh | April 16, 2014 11:24 AM

MMJ show here was epic a few years back.

Posted by Anonymous | April 16, 2014 11:28 AM

Yeah, this venue definitely sucks. The only thing that made the shows worth going to there last year was that THEY WERE ALL FREE. When you announce a summer concert series in NY, it's a slap in the face to make it cost money. What's next? "Celebrate Williamsburg Concrete Waterfront" ?!! There's no reason these should be so expensive.

Posted by Maria | April 16, 2014 11:47 AM

@10:27 285 Kent was the actual address retard

Posted by Anonymous | April 16, 2014 11:59 AM

UMMM

Where are the free shows?????

Seriously, is this the first year we aren't getting free summer shows anywhere?

WTF.

Pitchfork did well with this one.

Posted by Anonymous | April 16, 2014 12:28 PM

yes 10:18 there are no more people living in Beirut so the war on drugs has been called off.

Posted by anonymous | April 16, 2014 12:48 PM

Hoopster fucking idiots. My god

Posted by Anonymous | April 16, 2014 1:20 PM

I blame Andrew Sacher driving up the price of shows with his thorough coverage of the emo and speedy punk scene making them demand for them larger.

Great place for shows tmbg in the pouring rain caught last sonic youth show there hopefully something good this summer

Posted by eazy L | April 16, 2014 3:15 PM

^ you're thinking of the wrong venue 3:15. You are describing the beautiful W'berg Waterfront, not the shithole abandoned parking lot that is W'berg Park

Posted by Anonymous | April 16, 2014 4:01 PM

Williamsburg Waterfront was a nice place to see a show, but this is just a shitty concrete slab surrounded by buildings.

Posted by Anonymous | April 16, 2014 4:20 PM

How long can they trade on people like eazy l thinking it's the wrong venue? Or just getting tricked by paying to go to that parking lot even once?

Having DIY party-shows in a giant parking lot makes sense (cheap to get in, cheap beer, lax/no security, re-entry, party relaxed atmosphere all day) - having a corporate legal venue as a giant parking lot where they herd you in, herd you out and charge $10 a beer is just a giant fucking ripoff for any idiot who gets tricked into it.
