The Both / Nick Diamonds @ Bowery Ballroom - 4/29/14
The Both
Nick Diamonds

Aimee Mann and Ted Leo's collaborative band The Both is currently on tour with Nick Diamonds (The Unicorns, Islands) and they hit NYC last night (4/29) for a sold out show at Bowery Ballroom, their first of two NYC shows on this run. The Both's set included all of their album, a few of Aimee and Ted's own songs too, and plenty of their very funny stage banter. They also encored with a cover of
"Voices Cary" by Aimee's old group, Til Tuesday. Nick (joined by one of his Islands bandmates) played a few covers too, like Henry Mancini's "Moon River," Wilco's "Jesus, Etc.," and a Sinead O'Connor song. Pictures of the show are in this post.

The Both and Nick Diamonds do it again at MHOW on Thursday (5/1) and tickets for that one are still available.

Meanwhile, over at Glasslands, Nick's former Unicorn bandmate Alden Penner was playing solo as well. Anyone catch that?

I am sorry, but I just can't get into this. It is almost as bad as seeing Ted Leo solo.

Does this mean the end of the Pharmacists? I hope not!

Very happy for both of them. I think they are each finding new audiences with this project.

this is a great project. Good to hear some electric back in Aimee's songs. Good to hear Ted sans pharmacists.

good to be alive.

I feel bad for MIchael Penn, these two are obviously sleeping together.

The show was average at best, but the combination of the overly long banter between the two of them and the fact that Bowery Ballroom was a shitty venue for this type of act ruined it for me, and I'm a huge fan of both Aimee and Ted. I'll stand for hours…under protest…for a balls-out rock band…not a show like this one. Seats would have made the show much more bearable! Too bad, cuz I'd been waiting to see this for months.
