As you may have heard, '90s alt-rockers Veruca Salt are back and will release their first new music in years as a Record Store Day 7". Says the band:

On April 19, Record Store Day, we're releasing a limited-edition ten-inch. On one side are two brand-new VS songs; on the other side is "Seether," (a) because this is the 20th anniversary of its original release, and (b) because come on. We recorded the new songs with Brad Wood, and Minty Fresh is putting the record out, just like the first time around. So much more to tell, but we're too busy relearning all our old songs and recording new ones.
The "relearning" part is because Veruca Salt are gearing up for live shows. While there hasn't been an official announcement, tour dates have emerged, including two in NYC: Bowery Ballroom on July 24 and Music Hall of Williamsburg on July 25. Tickets for the NYC shows go on sale Friday (4/18) at noon with an AmEx presale beginning Wednesday (4/16) at noon.

UPDATE: Full tour announced. All dates, plus the cover art for their RSD14 7", below...

Who even liked this band in the 90s?

Posted by D | April 15, 2014 12:34 PM

Maybe that's why they're playing in towns that are so hip they elect Scott Walker and John Boner to high office.

on the other side is "Seether," (a) because it was in some television commercials and rammed down peoples' throats for about a fucking year and (b) some moms want to show their daughters how cool they once thought they were

the "blow it out your ass it's veruca salt" ep was one of my mid-90s favorites.

Can you imagine how stretched out their labias must be by this point? Many, many years of over use.

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2014 2:12 PM

Be nice. They had a few good tunes.

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2014 2:17 PM

Your cool aunt's Speedy Ortiz

2:17, please elaborate.

Are you fucking kidding!? Does everyone forget how much this band sucked?

Posted by Anonymous | April 15, 2014 3:12 PM

^ I remember there was a strange contingent of people who legitimately liked them. I think there was a lot of crossover with that shitty Garbage band. Fans were mostly people who thought they were edgy or something. It's a sad footnote.

You guys are fucking retards. Love VS.

Everybody sing along!

"Sounds like the Breeders / dun dun da-nun / Sounds like the Breeders / dun dun da-nun..."

That's as much as I know.

verruca salt was great, they had this great song that came out 1996. I can't remember the name of it but it was great and I used to listen to it a lot

Posted by Anonymous | April 16, 2014 10:26 AM

sold out, yet you'll get for face day of show because, really, they only have three good songs. really, list more than three.

they were a 'singles' band

Posted by Anonymous | April 16, 2014 12:21 PM

that's a good song. sounds like they're having fun

Posted by Giddens | May 7, 2014 8:35 AM

i love how a bunch of people hiding behind a keyboard with probably zero musical talent can slam a band who's catalog they're probably COMPLETELY unfamiliar with. veruca salt's return with nina gordon is SO long overdue.
