Seaside crowd for Aretha Franklin, 2011 (more by Jacob Blickenstaff)
Aretha

One of NYC's longest-running free outdoor show series, Marty Markowitz's Coney Island Seaside Summer Concert Series, will not happen in 2014. It will not be gone forever, though:

In lieu of the proposed construction of the Coney Island Ampitheatre down the block from the West 21st street site that we have used for the past three summers, we decided that it was best not to produce the concerts this summer and put our energy and resources into planning for the future when we have a permanent home.

So after 35 years and hundreds of thousands of people enjoying our free shows, the Seaside Summer Concert Series is taking the summer off. We look forward to returning to Coney Island.. better than ever!

Major bummer. We look forward to Seaside Summer Concert Series' return in 2015.

When I look at my crystal city ball I see a post city boy without the stench of woman on him and he's typing, "The sound at the Coney Island Ampitheatre is horrible."

Now that Marty is gone, the ball has been fumbled. If Marty were still in office, there would still be shows happening while the new amphitheater was being built down the block.

where will the flea-ridden denizens of Coney Island get their big night out now?

4:23, I suppose there are other things to do in Coney Island.

Way too premature for you to be saying it will return in 2015. Ground hasn't even been broken and there's a court battle between the Community Gardens and the city.

I should say ground hasn't "officially" been broken.
