Homeboy Sandman and friends
Homeboy Sandman

Not counting a May 3rd show at Cornell, rapper Homeboy Sandman will kick off a North American tour in Nashville on June 4th and hit Santos Party House in NYC on June 12th with The Difference Machine, P.U.D.G.E, and "Special Guest DJ" EDAN. Tickets for the NYC show are on sale. All of HS's dates are also listed, along with his new video for "Fat Belly", below.

Homeboy recently added to a front page controversy via an article he wrote for Gawker entitled "Black People Are Cowards". He writes:

In light of the recent decision by a professional basketball team, comprised of mostly black players, to respond to their boss basically saying "I hate niggers" by turning their shirts inside out the next day at work, I have come to the decision that I agree wholeheartedly with the owner of the Los Angeles Clippers, and I too do not want black people invited to my events.
LOTS more where that came from, if you haven't read it yet, at Gawker.

Tour dates, songs and video below....

Homeboy Sandman - Fat Belly

"Second video from Homeboy Sandman's White Sands is "Fat Belly," and let's get this out of the way: it's a track about food. Oreo cookies and almond milk and on & on. For Sandman, the subject matter is not about nailing a theme (like Doom's MM FOOD) - it's always about story telling. Press play and watch for cameos from producer Paul White, BBC's Sarah Love, and some chicken legs. Directed by Bunny Bread of Code Emphasis. Raw Chocolate by Kate Magic."

do some research on Obama's policies in Africa.

then consider the comments Sterling made.

exactly.

Especially since the morons at Brooklyn Vegan are becoming some of the biggest click-baiting DOUCHES on the web. Homeboy Sandman did nothing of the sort. Dumbasses.

Posted by Anon | May 1, 2014 12:09 PM

Read the actual article. It says a lot more than the excerpt posted here. It's actually pretty interesting.

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2014 12:10 PM

who'd have thought that when lazy, sensationalist hipsters encounter something deep, they breeze right past it for the sake of click bait. Oh wait, everyone.
fucking sad.

Posted by anon | May 1, 2014 12:16 PM

^^^^ Basically what everyone else already said. BV, you lazy fucks. Just post the link to the full article in the initial post. The excerpt is misleading.

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2014 12:23 PM

haha do you think BV really didn't read past the first paragraph or just wanted some good click bait? Pathetic either way.

To everyone complaining about this blog's editorial philosophy -- welcome to the internet you morons.

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2014 12:34 PM

to the person replying critically to comments on the internet, thanks for the enlightenment.

To those about to rock, I salute you.

This guy's article is great...but it's also hypocritical. He calls black people cowards for not being willing to go on strike from their jobs yet participates in the corporate music industry and makes videos praising huge conglomerate food companies.

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2014 12:50 PM

^Besides being hypocritical, it is also rife with "yeah tell us something we don't already know" information

Yes it is a good read and interesting and you know what Homeboy Sandman, you are right. We should all not be cowards and stand up against the aggressors and really struggle for our rights.

That being said, I will be the first in line behind you as you take the lead in protesting and boycotting since you feel so strongly about and railed against the "cowards" who do nothing. Let me know when you cancel this money making tour of yours and start the boycott

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2014 1:03 PM

This guy is right on but it screams of 'college kid' soapbox speech. Needs a little reality check. The main point is non-participation/boycotting is absolutely the only way to eliminate something you don't want in your life.

If nothing else, Tyler Perry/Kevin Hart movies just aren't funny.
Seriously, I watched "Medea:Witness Protection" the other night. It was exhausting and I had not a single laugh.
P.S. I'm white.

hey look, some substantive discussion/response. take THAT, lazy BV blogger!
I'm not saying for anyone who might be looking for more on Homeboy Sandman's politics you can also read some thoughtful op-eds he's done via HuffPo, as well as a profile on him which calls details his work with kids (he's also a former teacher)
http://www.huffingtonpost.com/tag/homeboy-sandman/

the day before 5Pointz was whitewashed I attended a last-ditch rally outside the building. Homeboy Sandman was one of the hosts, passionately leading the rally and even went so far as to lead the way in a call for a human chain around the building. I'm not saying dude's a saint or a savior, but aside from the fact that most of his lyrics are enlightening/uplifting he's not soley sitting behind a laptop talking shit.
peace

oops please ignore that inital misplaced "I'm not saying" kthxbye

Posted by Jack Wilson | May 1, 2014 1:35 PM

That ls fine Jack Wilson, leading a rally at 5pointz to not close so it could remain a spot for people to graffiti is a far cry from the larger boycotts he advocates

Let him be the first in line to cancel his tour and forgo making money and I'm sure lots of other people will fall in line.

Not trying to turn this into a sports message board, but suppose it's related to the post...I am in no way condoning what Donald Sterling said. He sounds like a racist asshole. But about 10 years ago Ron Artest went into the crowd and punched a fan. Where is he now...playing for the Knicks. Donald Sterling was basically baited into comments, and he's banished from ever stepping foot into an NBA facility for the rest of his life. How the fuck does that make sense?

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2014 1:42 PM

"Donald Sterling was basically baited into comments, and he's banished from ever stepping foot into an NBA facility for the rest of his life"

I cannot stand all the idiots on the net like you who mistakenly post this drivel

The gold digging sugar baby has hours and hours of conversation recorded. You only heard a snippet so to say he was being baited is ridiculous. The NBA concluded after hearing more than we did that not only was he not baited but he knew he was being taped the whole time.

Sterling has a history of saying in private and in public racist comments.

Way to latch onto a news story and make a name for yourself, annonymous rapper none of us have ever heard of!

Posted by Anonymous | May 1, 2014 3:52 PM

3:52, speak for yourself. He's genuine underground hip hop. Go hop on Riff Raff or Odd Future's nuts, dumbass.
