Body/Head at MoMA in 2013 (more by Amanda Hatfield)
Body Head

Body/Head, the duo of Sonic Youth's Kim Gordon and Bill Nace will head to Barcelona for Primavera Sound at the end of this month. That's their only scheduled date at the moment, but upon returning home Kim will team up again with I.U.D. (aka Lizzi Bougatsos of Gang Gang Dance and Sadie Laska of Growing) for a NYC show on June 8 at MoMA PS1 as part of the venue's Sunday Sessions. Doors are at 6 PM, music at 8. Tickets are on sale now.

Meanwhile, Body/Head were interviewed by Kyle Meredith for The Weekly Feed during the Big Ears Festival and the video for that has recently surfaced online. You can watch it below...

Does anyone still care about sonic youth?

4:51, I'm super curious about the provenance of your statement. Is it because they were a ground-breaking band that paved the way for countless bands? The fact that they were on a mainstream label for a while and still releasing music that incorporated pop/rock/punk/avant-garde/noise? What gives? Oh, wait ... I get it. You actually never saw them perform live, did you?

I think this duo of Kim's is pretty intense. I don't find myself listening to the album a lot, as I feel a lot of work along those lines is better experienced live. But on stage, these two make an epic night of noise and experience.

And Lee! Fuck yeah. Lee was always the bad-ass out of the group. Him and Steve. Steve behind the kit will slay anyone.

Oh, and 4:49, there's not going to be a Sonic Youth anytime soon so projects like these are a way for people to get to hear new music from people in the band. It's not so much a novel concept. A precedence has been set by an overabundance of musicians before them. Think about it. And then, once you've got a clear grasp on that formula of think before speak, come back and play with us again.

the body/head record is really good.

^ That's what I'm saying! It's really good. It's adventurous. Definitely it's own thing. I don't put it on regularly, but that doesn't diminish that I think it's one of the strongest releases of post SY work by any of them.

If Thurston wasn't such a creepy pervert, poor Kim wouldn't have to do this. Playing tiny venues and side stages Is humiliating and beneath her. But she needs to feed her kid and pay for college.

Body/Head okay, Penis/Mouth better.
That's my provenance.

SY should have imploded prior to that last dog of an album. Rather Ripped would've been a high note.

The Eternal was a pretty good album, not sure what album 12:39 thought was their last.
