Liars
Liars

Liars made their way from Austin Psych Fest to NYC for a wild, strobe-filled show at Le Poisson Rouge last night (5/8). Jana Hunter, who opened with a great cover of Hall and Oats' "Maneater", opened the show. Pictures from it are in this post.

It was a great set from Liars -- which now includes Pit Er Pat / Boredoms' Butchy Fuego on drums -- but we'll save our commentary for after tonight's show in Bushwick at The Wick (where Marnie Stern played last night). Tickets for the Brooklyn show will be available at the door if you're looking for last minute plans. Their tour continues Saturday in MA.

More pictures from LPR, including one of the setlist, below...

What happened to Julian?

@5:20 setlist went out of order and wound up a little longer than that I think. Also don't think it included encore.

Setlist didn't include 2-song encore (I forget which songs, possibly the result of my fourth reasonably-priced gin n' soda). Still a relatively short - but great - show overall, I thought I might have a seizure from the strobe lights during "Let's Not Wrestle, Mt Heart Attack."

Haha, those juveniles holding the setlist weren't even alive when this band formed. #classicrock

it was ridiculously short for a band with such an extensive catalog at this point. jana turner was very good.

Julian Hurt his back. He has a history of that. Went to both shows. Some of it is stupid hipster noise, some of it is very very good.

And remember, YYYs Maps is written about Angus. So if nothing else, he will always have that. He's the man.

All you angsty hipsters are hilarious. Show was amazing. Talked to the BK Vegan photographer and told him I'd be commenting. NAMASTE haters.

Jana was extremely boring... Liars set was killer but yes pretty short, encore was one of the instrumental tracks from Mess into Broken Witch

Jana Hunter was the highlight of this show - Liars performed most of this same set at PS1 last summer so it wasn't much new from them...

Hunter put on a set though, that was as good and powerful as anything Atlas Sound has done - for what it's worth.
