Georgia sludge masters Mastodon are currently on the road with French progressive death metallers Gojira and Norwegian black 'n rollers Kvelertak bringing awesome triple bills to various US cities like Chicago earlier this month and NYC last night (5/15) for a sold out show at Terminal 5. Other than "Crusher Destroyer" being the only Remission song played, Mastodon split their set pretty evenly between all their records, and gave us two songs off the upcoming Once More 'Round the Sun album, including lead single "High Road" and "Chimes at Midnight." You can check out a video of the latter from their Oakland show, below. Pictures and Mastodon's setlist from the Terminal 5 show are also in this post.

Before the show, Mastodon guitarist Brent Hinds gave guitar lessons and is doing the same in Philly and MA this weekend. Anyone take one of his lessons?

Kvelertak @ Terminal 5
Kvelertak

I didn't catch the Terminal 5 show, but I did see openers Kvelertak headlining a smaller (also sold out) show at Saint Vitus in Brooklyn a night earlier. They were great as always, offering a ton of crowd favorites from both of their albums like "Blodtorst," "Fossegrim," "Kvelertak," "Manelyst" and plenty more. It's no secret that the band are partiers and that they recall pieces of some classic bands, but there isn't really anyone doing it like Kvelertak. The Vitus show was all raised fists, endless mosh pits, and tons of English speakers yelling along the best they could to Erlend Hjelvik's Norwegian lyrics. Almost everyone left covered in sweat and smiling.

More pics of all three bands from T5, with Mastodon's setlist and that video, below...

Great show, but the sound mixing was horrible. Maybe it's just Terminal 5, don't know. It wasn't loud enough (didn't need earplugs), the bass was underwhelming, the voice didn't come across well. The floor/walls should have been shaking.

Oh well, great show anyways.

Fucking tight show. sound was a bit off though but what do you expect with terminal 5

Now that was Rock and Roll... awesome display of power... Mastodon are the best... and no slow ones...

where's the merch table?

Awesome show, great crowd. Troy sounded fantastic, Brent not so much.

Brent can't carry a tune in a bucket.

"Never saw Mastodon live until last night, but holy crap they totally crushed it at Terminal 5."

That comment is exactly why the crowd sucked last night. Mastodon were great though.

i don't know how anyone can beef about that show ... crowd was great (friendly, positive, psyched as hell), sound was good (it totally depends on where you stand at terminal 5 ... as far away from overhangs as possible is advised, sound gets lost there), mastodon amazing ... great night, great band
