The Strokes at Bonnaroo 2011 (more by Dana (distortion) Yavin)
Strokes

It was already announced that The Strokes would play their first hometown show since MSG in 2011 at this year's Governors Ball (the NYC festival that Julian Casablancas also plays with his band The Voidz), but if you don't want to brave a huge three-day festival to see them (or even one day of a three-day fest), you're in luck. The NYC cool kids of the early aughts will now preface GovBall with a headlining festival pre-show in the area at Port Chester's Capitol Theater on May 31, a far more intimate location than Madison Square Garden.

Tickets for the Cap show go on Strokes Fan Club presale Wednesday (5/14) at 10 AM, followed by Governors Ball/Citi bank presales on Thursday (5/15) at noon and the general on-sale Friday (5/16) at noon at this link.

Meanwhile, you can still get tickets to Governors Ball, which also includes Outkast, Jack White, Vampire Weekend, Phoenix, TV on the Radio, Disclosure, Damon Albarn, and more. But if you'd like to go for free, we've teamed up with DoNYC to give away a pair of VIP tickets to Governors Ball 2014. Enter our contest via the form below...

Wow. Surprised to see them dare leave the Manhattan/Brooklyn area to play in Port Chester. Excellent venue.

Posted by Anonymous | May 13, 2014 2:25 PM

May 31: the night ANY venue in NYC proper will have an excellent crowd

Posted by Anonymous | May 13, 2014 2:27 PM

Too bad the contest is really for twitter followers :(

Posted by Anonymous | May 13, 2014 2:30 PM

Why hasn't GovBall posted their schedule yet?

Posted by Anonymous | May 13, 2014 2:35 PM

Is Capitol Theater GA or is it assigned seating?

Posted by Anonymous | May 13, 2014 2:37 PM

Will I get robbed if I go to that place?

They are totally irrelevant. The last 3 albums have been trash and no one gives a shit anymore. They're just going through the motions to cash festival payouts and RCA advance checks.

Posted by Anonymous | May 13, 2014 3:52 PM

@2:37 - it has a GA floor and seating for the mezz or balcony or whatever

Posted by Anonymous | May 13, 2014 3:53 PM

@3:52

While I agree their first two albums are their strongest work, I wouldn't call all three of the following albums "trash". I think Angles is the weakest one and even that has a couple okay songs. Definitely their weakest though. I thought the most recent one, Comedown Machine, was better. Not great but better.

I'd still see them at the cap for $30.

Posted by Anonymous | May 13, 2014 3:57 PM

the RCA advance checks have been cut off, so it makes sense they're trying to start a new career as a "live band."

free advice: don't play ANYTHING from the last 3 albums, okay guys?

Posted by Anonymous | May 13, 2014 3:58 PM

THE STROKES SUCK. YOU'RE PASTY CITY BOYS

Posted by Anonymous | May 13, 2014 4:11 PM

lol @ 3:02

Your a moron- T5 blows and The Cap is amazing

Posted by Anonymous | May 13, 2014 5:00 PM

I'm not 3:02

The Cap is an awesome venue, all around.

BUT, ...

after hearing Mogwai this past Friday, I'm not so quick to categorically dismiss T5 any more.

But I am over 6 ft tall though, so if you are a twerp you will no doubt find it hard to find a good spot when you come in 5 minutes before the main act comes on. But I think it serves you right for being such an entitled pussy anyway, Cupcake.

Posted by Anonymous | May 13, 2014 5:18 PM

the T5 sound guy sure does post a lot

Posted by Anonymous | May 13, 2014 5:26 PM

@3:02 either shut up and see your shitty band or get into better bands.

Posted by Anonymous | May 13, 2014 5:49 PM

"Why not terminal 5? Fuck Julian Casablancas and the other four. that's so moronic, why not manhattan? Brookly? they want to be special? stupid pretentious hipsters"

You are the stupid one here. All live concerts contracts have a stipulation that an artist can play another local show within X days of a schedule event. T5 is local, Capital is not (depends on the radius specific in the contract). Sometimes bands can set other shows if the original one sells out.

Posted by Anonymous | May 13, 2014 6:19 PM

Yes you will be robbed. Don't come

Posted by Anonymous | May 13, 2014 7:35 PM

Anyone who calls themselves a New Yorker and doesn't appreciate The Strokes doesn't know their ass from their elbow. Julian and Co. put this city on the map.

Posted by Anonymous | May 13, 2014 7:50 PM

PUMPED!

Posted by Anonymous | May 13, 2014 8:15 PM

RADIUS CLAUSE

they'll announce an nyc show when govball sells out

Posted by Anonymous | May 13, 2014 9:27 PM

Dear 7:50pm,

I'm fairly certain anyone who was, "was" being the optimal word here, a New Yorker stopped reading this gossip blog a long, long, long time ago.

Posted by Anonymous | May 13, 2014 9:41 PM

"Julian and Co. put this city on the map"

After watching Friends re-runs in Des Moines with his 14 member family, this person moved to NYC because he everyone told him he was totally just like Chandler.

Posted by Anonymous | May 13, 2014 9:58 PM

Your grandsons; they won't understand.

Follow these steps:

1) Use your Citi card
2) Follow Gov Ball on FB/Twitter would be my guess for any other pre-sale password
3) Get shut out anyways
4) Pay 4x face on SH or other shitty re-seller site
5) Take shitty Metro North train which smells like someone ate a homeless man's shit, vomited it up and then pissed on it
6) Go to nearby Buffalo Wild Wing's beforehand to "pre-game"
7) Watch band inhale dick live and look bored
8) Have ANOTHER shitty ride home on Metro North which smells like someone ate a homeless man's shit, vomited it up and then pissed on it

The password is "TRANSPLANT+HIPSTER" (case sensative)

Posted by Anonymous | May 14, 2014 11:35 AM

People on here are crazy. They're probably doing Port Chester as a warm up gig since they haven't played together in so long. Less stress to be on point.

As far as I'm concerned, could care less about this band.

Posted by Anonymous | May 15, 2014 11:08 AM

^ Aight but nobody gives a f*ck what you think ;)

Posted by Anonymous | May 15, 2014 12:07 PM

11:08 - you COULD care les about this band? How much less could you care? A little, a lot, etc...

Posted by Anonymous | May 15, 2014 1:11 PM

12:02 there were 116 seats on stubhub, sold out instantly? or pre-instant?

Posted by Anonymous | May 16, 2014 12:04 PM
