Thee Oh Sees @ Irving Plaza, 2013 (more by Ebru Yildiz)
Thee Oh Sees

We just posted that Brigid Dawson is taking a break from Thee Oh Sees so she can do other stuff like her artwork. But who is in The Oh Sees now? Now living in Los Angeles, frontman John Dwyer has an all-new live touring lineup of the band and it's a trio, with Nick Murray on drums and Timothy Hellman on bass.

UPDATE (5/8): This is the line-up for this tour and should not be considered the new "official" lineup of the band.

We will miss Petey and Mike and Brigid! Also a bit surprised The Intelligence's Lars Finberg (who lives in LA too) isn't a part of the program. (He has been a touring member before.) Anyway, we're excited to see this slimmed-down Oh Sees when they play Brooklyn's McCarren Park on June 14 as part of Northside Fest. It's a free show, RSVP is still open for that and you can also get in with your Northside Badge (which are still available).

Slimmed down? The one member that left did not provide much to the live sound.

So the dude has an ego?

12:15 - Reading comprehension is important dude. Three members left the band.

What a fucking twat!

Yeah band members just leave a band that's sort of blowing up at the moment

Fucking idiot. Believe everything we hear, do we?

That dude seriously puts on the best live show on earth. I am there to see him... obviously if they suck now I'll change my opinion but totally jazzed for this!!

Didn't provide much to the live sound? what the fuck? Brigid sang half the vocals you twat.

Agree with 2:01

Gonna miss the old lineup. They were all a lot of fun to watch. Maybe the new lineup will let them shake up the set list a bit more though. They were always awesome, but there's a ton of great songs they never do live.

her vocals will be missed

12:32 - Yes asshole...they sometimes do. Can you fucking read "twat"?

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2014 3:02 PM

Agree w 2:01 also

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2014 3:16 PM

who are these new people?

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2014 3:29 PM

"all-new live lineup"

Translation: the guy lawyered-up and kicked out the rest of the band.

Take all your twatiness over to pitchfork. JPD knows what he's doing. New record sounds pretty damn good without any of the touring members.

At least its not hether fortune touring with them. shes already ruining white lung

Dwyer moved to LA because his wife was expecting. Rest of members did not follow. I don't blame them. LA is for assholes. But there's no story here.

I barely heard Brigid's vocals whenever I saw them live.

3 guys = less people to pay on tour

Posted by Anonymous | May 7, 2014 8:04 PM

Horrible shit band

Posted by Anonymous | May 8, 2014 7:25 AM

Lots of morons in the comment section, I see.

^ yup, you included

Saw them and the trio sucks live, they sound like a cover band.

Just saw the new lineup in LA at the Echoplex. The bass and drums really dragged on some songs. Hopefully they will get tighter and find their groove as they play more shows.
Petey and Mike really were missed last night - Petey's Jazzmaster cuts through in the mix - the new guy's 4 string vintage bass looks cool but sounds muddy. I've seen Petey, Mike, and Bridget play with John on four occasions - they were one of the best bands I've ever seen. That sort of chemistry is hard to find.
Despite this John is awesome and he did put on a good show last night - hopefully this new lineup will be able to back him up properly after they get a few more shows under their belts.

Ditto on the Echoplex show. I love Thee Oh Sees and I can't help but feel let down. The performance fell flat, and was way less fluid and dynamic to the point where they felt like a cover band. No disrespect to the kids backing him up, and just like anonymous said, the OG line-up's chemistry is truly a rare find.

I especially missed Brigid Dawson's backup vox...

Saw the trio at McCarren Park. It does indeed seem like a cover band. There was no chemistry and the new members have the stage presence of house plants.

I’m no musician and only know the YT clips, but especially the drummer often seems out of sync ... and I don't like that abuse of cymbals.

All you people saying it's like a cover band are fucking idiots! John Dwyer writes the songs. How can he be covering his own songs? You people are a bunch of hipster douchebags who don't know shit about music. I saw them at Burgerama and they kicked ass,and the new songs rule! Oh and John sings all the parts Brigid does and it sounds exactly the same.

I heard the 3OH3's were inspired by them.
