Billy Idol

Hot in the city today, and this news just in. After almost 10 years, Billy Idol is back with a new album. The press release reads:

Rock icon BILLY IDOL announced today that he will release his first new album in almost a decade, this October. The album will come out on IDOL's own BFI Records, via Kobalt Label Services. Produced by Trevor Horn, the new album will arrive close to the release of IDOL's highly anticipated self-written autobiography, Dancing With Myself, which as previously announced will be released in the U.S. via Touchstone, an imprint of Simon and Schuster Inc., on October 7.

IDOL recently launched his book campaign with a notable appearance at New York's Book Expo America and is now on the road in Europe with his band, which includes longtime collaborator and lead guitarist Steve Stevens. The current leg of Idol's tour continues until July 4 in Luxembourg.

Initial music from the new album will be released in late summer; IDOL's world tour will continue into 2015.

Billy I loved White Wedding and Dancing With Myself - still love 'em - but you need to give it a rest. You're a two-hit wonder punk sellout (albeit a good one with those two songs.)

The last good thing you did was being one of Jim Morrison's hangers on in The Doors movie released 23 years ago.

"self-written autobiography," the man has a way with words.

Billy Idol has millions of hits. He'll have millions more. I just hope on this tour he does some new songs!

It's absurd to call Billy a one or two hit wonder. There's more to good rock n' roll than hit singles, and Billy's always been an album artist. He's got tons of dynamite tunes for those willing to dig deeper -- Shooting Stars, Catch My Fall, Don't Need A Gun, Hole In The Wall, To Be A Lover, Blue Highway, Wasteland, etc., etc. If you include his Generation X stuff, the playlist is deeper still. In fact, some punk purists consider Kiss Me Deadly to be the best punk song ever (punk zinester Aaron Cometbus, for one).
