You Blew It! have been one of the buzzier bands in emo lately, thanks to their well received 2014 LP Keep Doing What You're Doing (the only album of its genre to crack Stereogum's 50 Best Albums of 2014 So Far list). That record (and its two predecessors) are with lead singer Tanner Jones, but when the band originally formed in 2009, they were fronted by Matt Messore, who left around the time of their first EP. Matt (who was also in No Harm Done before You Blew It!) then went on to front Nightlights, play in Go Rydell and start the bedroom pop solo project Hello Anxiety.
He's now fronting another new band, Cave Needles, who are a pretty far cry from the emo of You Blew It! and Nightlights, most similar to the calmer indie pop sounds he began experimenting with in Hello Anxiety. (They call themselves "psych beach rock" if you want an idea of what these guys are going for.) Their self-titled debut album comes out Saturday, 6/28 (yes, not a Tuesday) on vinyl via Disposable America and Warm Ratio (home of Vaadat Charigim) and on cassette via RTA Art Collective (who's also put out cassette releases for Axxa/Abraxas). Before it comes out though, you can take a listen to a stream of the full thing which premieres in this post.
In related news, You Blew It! are releasing a Weezer covers EP and their tour with Say Anything, The Front Bottoms and The So So Glos hits NYC on Saturday (tickets).
