revelers in Boston last night (photo via @briant1987)

More than 30 people were hospitalized in Boston Wednesday night after attending an electronic dance music show featuring Swedish disc jockey Avicii.

Boston EMS Deputy Superintendent Mike Bosse told the Boston Herald that 36 people were transported from the TD Garden arena to nearby hospitals by local and private ambulances, while another 50 were treated at the arena. None of those hospitalized appeared to be suffering from life-threatening symptoms, Bosse said, adding that the ages of those transported were between 16 and 25...

...Jacqueline Peterson, a spokeswoman for concert promoter Live Nation, said early reports indicate that a majority of those taken to the hospital "were people outside the venue who were too impaired to be allowed inside" for the concert. They were taken for medical evaluation and assistance as a precaution, she said in a statement early Thursday. - [Fox News]

That's the second Avicii-related bummer this week. There were two deaths related to this past weekend's Electric Daisy Carnival in Las Vegas which the Swedish EDM star also played. Las Vegas coroners are still investigating the causes.

Get some better drugs. And some better music too.

This does nothing but confirm my suspicions that EDM is a worldwide Darwinist plot to wipe out chill bros.

Who knew cocaine mixed with rat poison could do this.

Posted by Anonymous | June 26, 2014 10:54 AM

I guess we can thank these morons for security eventually being tighter than ever. Leave it to a few fuck-ups to spoil the (potential) fun for anyone else.

Wow, you guys are sooooooo dumb.

More proof that for all the image problems of heavy metal and gangsta rap that the most harmful music scene to young people's lives is STILL and ALWAYS HAS BEEN - EDM/Rave/Techno/House/Disco.

All you need to know about this scene is what a 30 year old skate boarding rich "kid" said to me once - "you wouldn't know this and shit but this guy named Deadmaus and shit is really big and shit".

I remember I got my weed taken away at govball at the entrance. I was pissed because I just wanted to chill out and listen to music, but I couldn't stand that normal feeling, ya know? So someone there had molly, so I did that instead.

But seriously, it's a lot easier to go to a show and pop molly than it is to smoke a joint.

Posted by Anonymous | June 26, 2014 11:42 AM

You got your weed taken away? Pahahah... my god, if you took more than 5 seconds to try and hide it, you'd be fine. Although you're right, it's clearly easier to bring in a tiny capsule.

Anyway, yeah these kids are ridiculous. It's sad that I can't enjoy EDM shows anymore due to these irresponsible fucks.

Posted by Anonymous | June 26, 2014 11:52 AM

The condescension of weed smokers is exactly why I'm still glad you can get arrested for having it :)

meatheads. whores. lol.

I was in Penn Station last year when one of these fests was going on. The music is horrible (I am old!), but god, the girls with their big chests. Giddy up.

Posted by Anonymous | June 26, 2014 12:06 PM

The condescension is justified, people don't hurt themselves or anyone else by smoking.

Posted by Anonymous | June 26, 2014 12:15 PM

Natural selection.

Who the fuck is this, some guy with a laptop? We are talking about an arena where the Stones and Miley Cyrus play.

EDM is so bad it's killing people.

But really kids, if there's one thing you don't mess with it's serotonin. I realize that isn't the cause of death in these situations, but I don't get the point of taking something that will make you feel good for one night, then deeply depressed the next few days. Not worth it.

Um out of 400,000 EDC attendees less than a fraction of 1% are likley to suffer from death, felony, or drug related issues.

As a drug free attendee (yes we exist) I witnessed EDC health crews and employees doing there very best to keep everyone safe and hydrated.

Securty was top notch. Also lets keep in mind more people die and are arrested on the Las Vegas strip on any given weekend than at an event like EDC.

So stop sensationalistic story telling. Yes 2 deaths need to be recognized, but let's ask the important questions, like: what was the real cause, and what about the people that were with the deceased? What was there role?

EDC provides great music, quality entertainment, and world class experiences for its attendees. 400,000 people don't spend that much money on tickets, hotel, and travel expenses to just piss it away on bad decisions. 99% of them conducted themselves positively and looked out for each other.

These are not just ravers, they are people from all different classes and backgrounds from all over the world. People like me and you.

then you shouldn't do a lot of other drugs as well, i.e. lsd and cocaine which both affect serotonin reuptake (lsd more directly).

really kids, don't take drugs that you don't know anything about.

and yes, the EDM crowd absolutely has the hottest girls. how have you not realized that half the reason any guy goes is to just grind with some chick on molly for several hours? the music doesn't matter at all.

that being said, meh.

why are we focusing only on EDM concerts??? Yes they have grown more popular over the years,(whichmeans they become the focus). they bring feelings, emotions, and present stimuli, (laser lights, staging, colors) that our bodies and minds are attracted to. What outsiders fail to see, is its like any other concert scene-that attracts mind altering substances.the only reason we hear about it for music festivals, is now, they are in the public eye, because of recent popularity. Not fair!!!! We can't control, other peoples choices.
