Diane Coffee

Brian Wilson, the mastermind behind The Beach Boys, turns 72 today (happy birthday Brian!), so it's good timing for a Beach Boys cover, which we've gotten from Foxygen drummer Shaun Fleming's Diane Coffee project. One might argue there there are about 300 better options, but he has taken on "Kokomo," the 1988 hit that Brian actually had no part of (but certainly sounded like it was trying to recreate his style). Shaun said of picking this song, "Kokomo has always been one of my favorite summer songs. For as long as I can remember I've played it in my head as a slightly darker tropical tune."

You can listen to his darker (and sax-less) take on the song in this post, below...

Alex Chilton invented this kind of crap after he was a star but before he quit working at Burger King.

Foxygen is just awful.

Isn't Foxgen where all those Chinese Apple slaves were jumping off the roof? I don't know if I'd want my band named after that.

THis song is nothing without Mike Love's brilliant sax solo.

Shut up all you stupid freakies! make a band a try to sound well, write songs if you don´t like other people´s songs!

^ As it clearly states in the post, moron.

Kokomo had nothing to do with Brian Wilson.

A couple of post city marketing professionals arguing at a cash-only brunch:

POST CITY MARKETER: That is the song of the summer.

POST CITY MARKETER 2: No way is that the song of the summer.

Quite possibly one of the most unfunny and saddest internet personas i've ever come across. And the internet is a really sad place.

Don't take it so hard Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2014 2:45 PM.

You ever see Die Hard? You're in the role of Karl and the internet is your brother. I'm the rogue John McClane, "yippee ki yay post city!"

Even more of a reason to hate this band. Covering a song that has nothing to do with Brian Wilson.

Posted by Anonymous | June 20, 2014 3:10 PM

I'm a Beach Boys fan and I usually deny the existence of Kokomo.

I think Mr. FF just hits a little too close to home for some of you frootz. He's the best thing since Sabra's surprisingly spicy you-know-what.

Keep doing you, Mr. FF. Awaiting salvation at CITYFEST. Will there be DUNKACINN(O))s?

Not actually a side project. There are two core members. He is the drummer when they play live.

Foxygen = best band
