Fell Voices

We’ve already mentioned Pitchfork’s Northside metal show featuring Pallbearer, Hull, Planning for Burial, Yellow Eyes and Vilkacis, but we haven’t given much play to Vilkacis around these parts. The band is a one-man black metal project from Mike Rekevics, drummer of the atmospheric black metal band Fell Voices (and Vorde, and Ruin Lust), and, like Fell Voices, Vilkacis delivers long, hypnotic black metal. Vilkacis is decidedly more lo-fi and may hit a bit harder, though, and if you give “Blood Dream in the Fever of War” off of Vilkacis’ debut The Fever of War a listen below, you’ll hear that the Vilkacis’s material is also catchier than it’s better known cousin, something closer to anthemic. If you like what you hear, The Fever of War is out now on vinyl on Psychic Violence.

There’s also an aftershow for tonight’s Pallbearer show at Acheron at 11 PM which features “PsychoBlackMetal warlords” Goat Pope, plus Yellow Eyes and Savagist. Unlike Special Guest, we can not actually find evidence of a real band called Goat Pope. So who exactly are they? We’re not sure, but Acheron says, “You can ABSOLUTELY catch both Pallbearer at Europa and then catch Goat Pope at the Acheron. They cannot possibly play at the same time.” Admission is $10 or $8 with a stub from the Europa show.
