Besides being the powerhouse singer for the Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Karen O has been a force in many other ways, composing soundtracks, contributing individual solo songs to others, and badass collaborations to others. Not to mention she’s made an opera, launched a side project, and can call both Santigold and Swans collaborators. The list goes on. But one thing she’s never done is put out a solo record which will change this year.

Karen’s first solo LP is called Crush Songs and will be out on September 9 via Julian Casablancas‘ Cult Records. Karen says, “When I was 27 I crushed a lot.” (She’s 35 now.) “I wasn’t sure I’d ever fall in love again.” (She did.) “These songs were written and recorded in private around this time. They are the soundtrack to what was an ever continuing love crusade. I hope they keep you company on yours.”

No music from Crush Songs yet, but you can check the album artwork below…
