Morrissey in Austin last month (more by Tim Griffin)
Morrissey

"It is with great sadness that the remainder of the US Tour has been cancelled. The respiratory infection Morrissey contracted in Miami has worsened, and in the interest of making a full recovery, all further touring plans have been halted. Morrissey thanks his fans for their compassion, understanding, and well-wishes during this difficult period as he recuperates. "

Posted by Anonymous | June 10, 2014 6:46 PM

He isn't that old, how is he always so sick? Diet? Some more serious illness he hasn't revealed?

Posted by Anonymous | June 10, 2014 6:47 PM

Dude needs to eat the meat. Oh wait, he does.

Regardless, if you wanna be in this game, you need to be a warrior. And if you want to be sooooooo pompous and book that fucking place in Brooklyn----what's it called? Barklayz? Berkleys? Barclaise? Whatever! Don't even try it. He continues to waste time.

Posted by Anonymous | June 10, 2014 6:49 PM

atleast he is the first person to cancel both MSG and Barclays shows

Posted by Anonymous | June 10, 2014 6:51 PM

He contracted Unsoldticketitis.

So where is Cliff Richard going to play now? That's all I cared about anyway.

Posted by Anonymous | June 10, 2014 7:06 PM

Posted by playeverywher | June 10, 2014 8:13 PM

EVERY time Morrissey fails to sell tickets at bigger venues he cancels/gets sick. How in the fuck would he fill a 15,000 seat arena in 2014!!?? He JUST blamed BAM a year or so ago. How greedy can you get and how stupid is the promoter who thought he could fill Barclays Center?

Posted by Anonymous | June 10, 2014 8:16 PM

Damn, now I'll never get to see Cliff Richard

Posted by Anonymous | June 10, 2014 8:22 PM

any info on refunds?

Posted by Anonymous | June 10, 2014 8:28 PM

Actually...
He did sell 16K capacity LA sports arena just a couple months ago. Reviews on the tour have been amazing

Posted by Anonymous | June 10, 2014 8:29 PM

He can play huge shows in LA because well, you know.

Posted by Anonymous | June 10, 2014 8:51 PM

I bet you Boz is pissed

Posted by Anonymous | June 10, 2014 9:04 PM

He was awesome in LA. Artists get sick like everyone else. I'd cancel to if my voice wasn't up to par.

Response from Kristeen Young on Facebook:

Ok. Regarding the recent True-to-you statement from Morrissey: I did not "confess to a horrendous cold". On Monday, June 2nd, I had an allergy attack that was over within 16 hours. I went to a doctor (on Monday, June 2nd), an allergy specialist, who gave me drugs for allergies...and they worked. I explained this (early on Tuesday, June 3rd) and offered this doctor's phone number to Morrissey personally and the tour manager, Donnie Knutson (for proof....since they seemed to doubt me). But, they NEVER followed up with me or said doctor. Also....it is incorrect that I "decided to leave the tour completely". I was asked to leave. Was called (in the presence of my band as witnesses) by Morrissey's booking agent, Dave Tamaroff, and told that there would be a new support band in Boston. I am very sorry that Morrissey is not feeling well. But I will not tolerate these lies....particularly about my health. This is really too much and bizarre.

When the tour was announced I put the over/under at 15 as to the number of shows that would happen. Check me on this, but I think he did 15 shows.

I was told that the Barclay's show was selling very well.It is too bad that I wont see The Pope Of Mope perform in 2 weeks.Love both The Smiths and his solo classics.

Posted by D | June 11, 2014 1:21 AM

I saw The Smiths in '87 at Pittsburgh Civic Arena. They were less than stellar live so I won't be too upset over this one.

Posted by Anonymous | June 11, 2014 1:21 AM

The Sons & Heirs 'Smiths tribute' show/Morrissey afterparty (now the only party) will still go on at Union Hall at 11pm that night.

all the showcase and BV-sponsored shows in the world won't make up for allowing such comments to be posted.

why do the gays hate free speech? they've really become the new fascists.

Posted by Anonymous | June 11, 2014 10:19 AM

^Gays sold out. They want mainstream acceptance now. What they fail to realize though, is that no amount of media control, or political muscle will ever make taking a dick in your ass universally accepted. It's such a waste of time. Tragically hilarious.

10:32 automatically narrows down homosexuality to anal sex. doesn't recognize the many, many ways sexuality can be expressed between two people of the same gender. nope. just thinks about anal sex between men.

Haven't seen anything about refunds, don't mind the cancellation as long as I get my $ back because I wasn't terribly impressed with the set-lists thus far

Posted by Anonymous | June 11, 2014 4:35 PM

Damn I was looking forward to seeing Moz in Barclays.Especially the new songs from his upcoming album (the ones I heard I like a lot).

So many stupid, unfunny & ignorant comments that my head hurts. All the gay sex jokes like this mostly-celibate loner of a singer is George Michael or Elton John.Atleast the comments on RS board do clever spins on his newsmaking vegetarianism. But here its just lame homophobic stuff.

Lastly,if the Smashing Pumpkins (aka Billy Corgan and some musicians playing 90 minutes of boring ,nothing-to-say new music) didnt cancel their Barclays show because of low ticket sales,I doubt that Morrissey would.Someone who has had a very long career even in the USA in the alt. rock world-from the influential Smiths in the 80's to a lot of solo hits in the 1990's and 2000's (up to "Irish Blood, English Heart" in 2004).He has collected many fans in those 33 years I would guess.

Posted by Anonymous | June 11, 2014 6:21 PM

12:55 PM-As a childless single person in my 30's in Southern Brooklyn-Trust me-No one to be youz "Cool BK parentz" in Park Slope or wherever. You "cool" breeders are stupid and annoying transplants who's only goal is to turn "BK" into the suburbs.Get Lost & take your crying brats with you!

Posted by Anonymous | June 11, 2014 6:34 PM

the set lists from this tour have been so bad, it was obvious he had no musical interest in this tour.

Posted by Anonymous | June 11, 2014 6:50 PM

ugh oh, i can feel the beginning tremors of a homo temper tantrum. everyone better watch out. they're going to break out some fake 'science' and maybe even mob up and go after anyone who isn't down with them.

Posted by Anonymous | June 11, 2014 7:35 PM

I would be truly dissappointed if he lives through this!

Posted by Anonymous | June 11, 2014 9:12 PM

Morrissey's next single should be "World Peace Is Not Canceling Shows".The lyrics could go something like "World Peace Is Not Canceling Shows/Respiratory infection,I'll pretend it's just the
the common cold/And Brooklyn,I'm coming to sing all the hits/And the haters on Brooklyn Vegan can suck my Moz stick/Stupid Hipsters before you were born,I
sang in the Smiths".

Posted by Anonymous | June 11, 2014 9:21 PM

12:24pm You're a no-life shithead because you missed my "the Morrissey him cancelling shows..." remark which is the most cleverest funniest comment on here. "The more I see" - get it? So you not only are a no-life shithead, you're a no sense of humor shithead, too. You're a shithead for even replying to me (and a half a day later to boot) cuz you're gonna lose like everyone loses to me in BV comments because I'm the fuckin' king of BV comments.

Now, as for this dickhead Morrissey. 'Time for ALL future promoters to demand from him the cost of his shows up front as a refundable deposit and that he is paid according to actual time onstage from first note to last. If it costs $20G to put on a Morrissey show and he actually plays the show, he gets back the $20G. If he storms off the stage like a baby midway into his 90-minute set cuz ONE person out of 3000 hits him with a bottle or whatever, he is paid half of what he's guaranteed for being onstage half the time he has legally agreed to perform. Set up a countdown clock his tour manager can monitor to figure out how long he actually plays from the first note you start the clock with.

948 "Clever" is not in your repertoire! Being a douchebag most certainly is though.

Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2014 1:25 AM

^ Oh who's the no-life idiot now? You posted almost FOUR HOURS after I did. I went to bed at 10pm and got up at 5am for a nice restful 7 hours of sleep. Three hours into my slumber you reply to me like the nut you are.

Clever isn't in my repertoire? Thanks for acknowledging that I at least have a repertoire unlike you ya whiny bitch which is all you are.

Posted by D | June 12, 2014 5:32 AM

This whole situation has really created an opportunity for Weird Al Yankovic to parody a Moz song but change the lyrics so they are about always cancelling shows. Remember when WAY punked Coolio?

Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2014 9:22 AM

This show was Definitely NOT cancelled because of low ticket sales. All of the floor, lower level, mid level seats were sold and even a decent number of upper level seats were sold. If 14000 tix were put on sale, I'd say a solid 10000 were sold or pretty close to it. And I suspect a lot of people weren't buying tickets till they knew he wouldn't cancel, so my guess is this arena would have been pretty well full by the day of the show. This show sold a lot better than the MSG show. My only guess why would be he also had PNC booked when he was gonna play the garden back then. Plus it being a Saturday show, he probably even had some folks coming in from Philly bc they didn't get a proper show. Poor Moz is not well, people should keep to themselves if they haven't got anything nice to say at all.

Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2014 10:48 PM

Why not reschedule such a big arena show?Even getting my money back doesnt make me feel happy. Heaven knows I'm miserable now.

Posted by Anonymous | June 12, 2014 11:08 PM

June spawned a monster of cancelled shows...

Posted by Anonymous | June 13, 2014 8:06 AM

Cliff is now doing a free show on the same day that he would've done barclays. I'm sure there were even a few 100 people who would've gotten tickets just to see Cliff. What a disappointment this cancellation. Moz should quit these 30 show tour attempts. McCartney who is 17 yrs his senior, in the past few yrs does a handful of shows at a time, a few times a year. MoZ should stick to the big cities in every region. A dozen shows is a lot easier to do , spread out then 30 at once and I'm sure he would pack Barclays too. http://www.morrissey-solo.com/content/1876-Cliff-Richard-to-play-free-New-York-show-to-make-up-for-Morrissey-cancellation-(June-21-2014)

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2014 3:51 PM

3:51 PM-Cliff I believe is 20 years his senior.Which shows the professionalism of the oldtimer performers. Not whiney, sickly kvetchers like generation x performers (with all due respect to Morrissey catching a cold from Kristeen Young).Even with your handful-of-shows-at-a-time suggestion,I wonder if any NYC arena will go through the headache of booking Morrissey again. After canceling both MSG & Barclays.

Posted by Anonymous | June 14, 2014 9:09 PM

I saw him in Boston. He ROCKED the sold out show. Most of the shows were sold out. I did see the ambulance that took him to the hospital from the venue. He is sick and I really hope it isn't HIV.
