tUnE-yArDs / Sylvan Esso @ Webster Hall – 6/22/14

After celebrating her new album Nikki Nack at Rough Trade NYC in May, tUnE-yArDs kicked off a full tour with Sylvan Esso that hit NYC for its first of two sold-out Webster Hall shows last night (6/22). Like at the Rough Trade show, main member Merrill Garbus was joined by longtime collaborator Nate Brenner, as well as three backing vocalists, though this time they were also joined during one song by vocal ensemble Roomful of Teeth who Merrill has played with before. Also like that show, the set was mostly the new album but did include some fan favorites from w h o k i l l (“Bizness,” “Gangsta,” “Powa”) and this time she included some from the first album too.

Sylvan Esso opened with a set of their danceable pop and the crowd was definitely loving them. They then headed to Baby’s All Right in Brooklyn to DJ the afterparty at midnight. Anyone go to that?
