Walking Bicycles

Some people will tell you "don't judge a band by their name" and Chicago's Walking Bicycles are a perfect example of why. As soon as I heard their name I thought I was getting one of those psuedo-indie pop bands that play at 1 PM on every US festival, but Walking Bicycles are actually a pretty heavy rock band. They call themselves "doom pop" which also may sound a little silly, but is actually a great description of their sound. They're dark and aggressive, but they've got plenty of hooks too. Their new record, To Him That Wills The Way, comes out on August 12 via the band's Highwheel Records. It was engineered by John San Paolo at Electrical Audio Studios (with additional engineering by Neil Strauch at Soma Studios) and mixed by Sanford Parker. Get a taste of it from the new single "Eyesore" which premieres in this post and can be downloaded above or streamed below.

Straight out of the hipster playbook:

- Esoteric, out there name
- At least two guys with beards
- One guy (girl?) with wavy long unkempt '70s boy/girl hair
- Four heads but no bodies
- Stupid fake new genre (doom pop)
- From Chicago (of course - god forbid a band from there has the energy and punch of Naked Raygun or Articles Of Faith)
- Boring music with fake angst

D knows that hipster playbook pretty well. It's good we have people like that to keep us on the righteous path.

Yes! Good jams! Feel all the feelings, authentically. Solid.

11:30pm I know it cuz it's so painfully obvious.

Seriously name me ONE hipster band where none of the guys looks like one of the following:

- Jesus Christ
- Willem Dafoe in Born On The Fourth Of July
- Emperor Ming
- An Eagle on the cover of Desperado
- An Old West saloon barkeep
- Freddie Mercury
- Jack Black if he had a moustache and/or beard
- The disheveled guy in the Vonage commercials and now the newest Bud Light commercial
- A lumberjack/mountain man
- A crustpunk minus the dirt-caked t-shirt

It is all about walking yourself along on what is really in the trend.
