ASDIG @ Baby's All Right 7/26/2014

"This is the best night of our tour," exclaimed A Sunny Day in Glasgow guitarist Josh Meakim on stage Saturday night (7/26) at Baby's All Right. Maybe they said that to all their audiences, but it certainly felt true. The band were beaming at the sold-out-show and sounded genuinely terrific. Not an easy thing to do, given the complex, glitchy nature of the band's new album, Sea When Absent. Jen Goma joined the band back in 2010 (from an open-call) but her influence on the band seems especially strong now. In addition to her very strong vocal capabilities (which match great with ASDIG's other singer, Annie Fredrickson), Goma (who is also in People Get Ready and toured with Pains of Being Pure at Heart) has a genuine positive energy that seemed to flow out to all the other band members and the audience. (Touring the most celebrated album of their career doesn't hurt morale/energy either.) All smiles. Great show. Pictures from their set are in this post.

Earlier in the night were Ice Choir, the current main focus of Kurt Feldman (TPOBPAH, Depreciation Guild) and recent remixer of ASDIG's "Bye Bye, Big Ocean (The End)," who are an almost clinical recreation of 1984 New Pop (Scritti Politti, Prefab Sprout) right down to the syn-drums. Opening the show was guitar-and-loop-pedal man Jason Bartell (of Fang Island who also remixed ASDIG). He began his set sitting on the edge of the stage playing a few solo songs before Cassandra Jenkins joined him for a few songs on guitar and vocals. Pics from both their sets, plus more of A Sunny Day in Glasgow, below.
