Julian w/ The Strokes at Governors Ball (more by Dana (distortion) Yavin)
Strokes

Julian Casablancas is having a pretty busy year. Among other things, he's releasing the new Karen O LP on his label, he's playing Strokes shows again (they next play FYF Fest and a Las Vegas show beforehand), and he's working on his other project, Julian Casablancas + The Voidz who are releasing an LP and touring.

The Voidz' tour has just been expanded and now includes a show happening in Julian's hometown of NYC on November 25 at Hammerstein Ballroom. Tickets for that show go on sale Friday (7/11) at noon. All dates are listed below.

The Voidz' album, Tyranny, comes out on September 23 via Julian's Cult Records. You can watch its newest video teaser, with the list of tour dates, below...

This project reeks of clown shit.

Friend,

I could not agree more with you. Then again, there there has always been prankster feces all over The Strokes catalog. While I've been known to tap the toes of my Manolo Blahniks, I know deep down that band is as contrived as any in the past fifty years.

Will his stage banter consist of the same fake spaced-out drunk guy schtick he's been doing for 13 years?

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2014 1:15 PM

can it be any worse than the last Strokes album?

I'll take this over another shit/overrated/overhyped Arcade Fire album.

I'll take anything over Arcade Fire.
To be fair

I actually found the last album by The Strokes to be one of the better ones in their catalog built around a New York City band that came up from having nothing to be loved by the world over.

While rock'n'roll is the enemy in His eyes, the Strokes are credited with driving condo sales so they're good by Him.

Here's my conundrum. In principle, I want to hate The Strokes. They are a band whose members all came from Mom and Dad's money and lived privileged lives. Their debut album reeked of being constructed in a business room. They were constructed too look a certain way. It felt the opposite of natural. And I have yet to ever read a positive review of them live. All that being said, their albums are catchy and fun to listen to. I don't want every album to sound the same from *any* artist, and I actually like the way in which they have gone a few different routes with each release. So I do remain unsure about this new JC album. We shall see.

@1:55

Wrong on SO many levels.

Their debut album was far from a business construction. They had tons of demos before 'Is This It' was released. Just by listening to the Arlene's Grocery shows from early on you could tell they were still working on those songs. That first album was developed over time.

That being said, The Strokes had a lot of studio help from JP Bowersock and Gordon Raphael in creating that first album.

2:18 - BV and all the posters 15 mins are up.
This site has gone on too long (10+ years) and somehow has turned into the must read site for NYC hipster/punks.

This site started because of the NYC bands like the strokes and others now if any of those bands are mentioned they are called fake, phony, past their prime, insulted etc...

Casablancas will tea bag all of you pseudo hipster scrubs.

Posted by Anonymous | July 7, 2014 7:50 PM

Dear 5:57,

I dearly value how you and I can come together on this food blog to discuss music. However, please keep in mind the grammar. Those on here know that's the lesson we all need to learn.

You wrote: 2:18 - BV and all the posters 15 mins are up.

You should have written: 2:18 - BV and all the posters' 15 mins are up.

The "posters" you speak of is actually showing possessive plural, as you are stating that many posters have a 15 minute allocation for fame. If you would have been directing that to only one poster, you would have been instructed to list as: poster's.

On a side note, I love how you equate "hipster" and "punks" as one in the same. LOL.

Thank you for playing.
