Move over, James Murphy. The indie rock coffee competition is getting more crowded. In conjunction with their new album, Brill Bruisers, The New Pornographers have partnered with Intelligentsia Coffee on a limited edition signature blend called Brill Brew. Says bandleader AC Newman:
As absurd as it may seem for us to have a signature blend, I think it is important that there is some sort of marker, some flag planted in the earth, so that whoever walks into Intelligentsia, whoever drinks this, will know: 'The New Pornographers really really loved coffee.'A 12oz bag of Brill Brew is $19.95 and comes with a download card for the new album. What does Brill Brew taste like? Stephen Morrissey (not that one)of Intelligentsia Coffee says:
After hearing The New Pornographers visit our coffee bars when they're in town, we invited them to choose an exclusive lot to call their own in celebration of their new album, Brill Bruisers. Carl tasted samples with us in the garden of our Chelsea shop in New York and chose a Kenya coffee grown by Harrison Kiongo Miti. Flavors of mango, nectarine and green apple shine in this cheerful and sweet coffee. For those not near an Intelligentsia store, Brill Brew can be ordered online. It and the album will be available August 26.
Perhaps The New Pornographers will be selling it at their merch table on tour too? They play November 19 at Hammerstein Ballroom with openersThe Pains of Being Pure at Heart. Tickets are still available.
