Langhorne Slim has been on the road lately, but before he left his current hometown of East Nashville, he had some weird stuff go down, as The Tennessean reports. His 1977 Mercury Comet was stolen in late July, and days later when Slim was in Vancouver for a show (he got their via a tour van), his car was spotted and his friend Mike Beyer (who helped him purchase the car) was on the case. After Beyer called the police and trailed the car himself, the teens driving the Comet eventually pulled over and escaped into the woods. Upon getting his car back, what was Langhorne Slim's response? To write a song:

The story seems to have created the kind of dramatic friction songwriters dream about.

"I don't think that you need to be miserable or have terrible things happen to write songs, though it seems to be where the songs come from," Slim said.

He had picked up his guitar after the theft, already mulling the possibilities.

"Now," he said, "the whole thing is beautiful."

Read the rest of the story at The Tennessean.

Langhorne Slim's tour hit NYC for a Summerstage show in Central Park on Monday (8/4) with a folk-oriented lineup of Old Crow Medicine Show and Spirit Family Reunion. Pictures from that show are in this post. They continue, with a couple videos, below...

If only this could happen to every old-timey, phony folk singer.

Let's talk marketing opportunities! Who has them? CityFest 2014 is sponsor free but I'm into sponsoring a brunch deal or two with children.

Wait, his car was stolen in East Nashville and then when he was in Vancouver the car happened to be there also? Those are some odds

1977. The last year FoMoCo made the Comet/Maverick. It's a pretty sharp car, in my opinion.
