Laurel Halo

The folks at The Kitchen have announced the latest in their Synth Nights series, which will be a performance by electronic artist Laurel Halo on September 9. According to the NY Times, she'll be presenting new works which, considering it's been a year since her second album, Chance of Rain, is exciting. Tickets for the one-off performance will be $15 and will go on sale August 26 at 2 PM.

Laurel, who was last here in March, contributes "Melt" and "Wow" to Hyperdub 10.3, one of four compilations being released to celebrate the label's 10th anniversary. It's out September 23.

She's also playing some European festivals in the coming weeks. All upcoming dates are listed, along with Hyperdub 10.3's tracklist, below.

For all the hype that Grimes gets, and I'm honestly not talking about all the snarky comments from BV-reading peeps ... that attention should seriously be going to Laurel Halo because her two records have been glorious fucked-up wonderful masterpieces.

I'm a big fan of her first album but what happened to the vocals on the second? That was sort of a big selling point.

Don't get me wrong, I love her albums - I have Chance of Rain on vinyl, but this show was very disappointing. Not well planned. Sound was awfully muddled. No where near as polished as her albums. I felt like I was sitting in her living room watching her process, which is cool - I guess.
