NiN / Soundgarden @ Jones Beach
Nine Inch NailsNine Inch Nails

Four years removed from re-uniting after a lengthy hiatus, the virtuosic quartet [Soundgarden] - minus Matt Cameron due to prior Pearl Jam commitments - took a workmanlike approach towards a tailor-made fan-pleasing set. Chris Cornell lorded over the proceedings with his brown curly mop over his eyes and his incomparable howl not having lost anything to the years as he either stood dutifully with his guitar or worked the stage with a mic stand raised over his head...

...the uninitiated may not have been aware that the night's show marked nearly a year to the day of Nine Inch Nails' triumphant Lollapalooza return wherein they debuted the latest iteration of their audio/visual live majesty. Clad in a cut off shirt and a kilt, Trent Reznor strode out with the stadium lights shining directly on him and his other three hired guns for new single "Copy of A." As the it built towards a mid-song climax, the lights cut out dramatically, revealing a hint of the revolving stage pieces yet to be employed. - [REVOLT]

Kings of 1994, Nine Inch Nails and Soundgarden's joint tour hit the NYC area over the weekend, playing Jones Beach on Friday (8/1) with Oneohtrix Point Never, and PNC Bank Arts Center with Dillinger Escape Plan. Pictures and setlists from Jones Beach are in this post.

God, how sad Trent is. I thought he 'retired' a decade ago, this band is relevant to nerds.

Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2014 3:22 PM

Yes, but nerds rule.

Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2014 3:50 PM

How is he sad, 3:22? People are paying to see the show. People want to hear his music. Does anyone want to hear your music? Is anyone paying to see you?

Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2014 3:52 PM

3:22 can't keep up. Is your only source of news local tv? Have you ever eaten anywhere besides 7-11 and Hardee's? Have you traveled more than 100 miles away from your birthplace? Have you been educated beyond your GED? Have you? HAVE YOU?!

If band doesn't play an atypical instrument or rock an ironic tshirt or facial hair they are irrelevant. Read bklyn handbook.

Incredible show at PNC last night. I was rather surprised how great both the acts performed.

I had a hookup for the VIP section and a seat on the floor and I wasn't even excited. Seen Soundgarden several times, but it's always good. Chris' voice is beautiful and perfectly in tact.

Never saw NIN. Never cared to, but they put a lot of effort into the stage show. Lots of 80's influence in the music and stage concepts. Funny to see Trent with beefy arms. Far cry from the long-haired, skinny guy I remember. "Head Like A Hole" was good and the drummer/guitarist/bassist was fun to observe.

8:23 Did VIP seat come with a stick so u cld keep one up yr ass at all times?

Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2014 8:37 PM

So did OPN play anything from eccojams vol.1? or did he play his shitty "experimental" music, if he didn't, then = fail.

Trent Reznor now looks like Trent Eatsmor

Posted by Anonymous | August 3, 2014 10:36 PM

Ha, polo shirt hole sun. #smh

NIN is one of the best bands currently touring. Show is amazingly well crafted.

It also helps that the new album is really good, so the new material isn't a slog.

Chairs in the pit. At the rail for Christ sakes! Grandpa can't stand for two headliners.

322 You are an idiot.
508 Dead on. I was there and totally agree.

I flew round trip over 10 thousand kilometres, from Ireland to see the gig, amazing show!!! Sadly back home in the emerald isle, just now and id do it again...just wish you could get beer inside (excluding the VIP area) still rocked!!

NIN = Overrated

Soundgarden = Nirvana wannabe

Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2014 6:45 AM

6:45 - Soundgarden sounds absolutely nothing like Nirvana. And actually, Soundgarden started their band first.

Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2014 7:27 AM

Hey 6:45 dumb as fuck right there. Why don't you spend one second of time on look up this thing called internet and tell me what year Soundgarden formed. Then do the same for Nirvana.

Thanks

$40 shirts for you die-hard NIN fans!

He clearly loves the fans!

Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2014 10:03 AM

This is sad.

Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2014 10:49 AM

Soundgarden was more hair metal, Nirvana more punk. Sounded nothing alike.

Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2014 11:59 AM

Soundgarden formed after Kurt Cobain told Chris all about the band he was going to form and call 'Nirvana', so yeah, nirvana ripoff but that's ok

Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2014 12:08 PM

Concert shirts are repulsively priced at most shows these days. Should never be more than $20

Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2014 12:22 PM

yeah those merch stands are outrageous

Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2014 12:29 PM

Get bent

Posted by blayne | August 4, 2014 1:01 PM

Hey 2:01, you fuckin moron. Jones Beach has seats for every show. There is no such thing as GA section at that venue, no matter how "hard rockin'" you think things should get.

Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2014 1:25 PM

Diehard NIN fan since 1994... I don't get how anyone has anything bad to say about either performance but then again, it's probably coming from a one direction fan or some other dicklicker.

Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2014 2:13 PM

before i go to a show, i eat alot of hummus. when i am at the show i look for a group of attractive women and stand next to them and let out some noxious gas.

Posted by Anonymous | August 4, 2014 3:24 PM

This is nonfruity music. If you like cute cakes, have a crush on a fussy gal, and are dependent on public transportation STAY AWAY.

No public transport to Jonez Beach Stadium for posties.

CITYFEST 2014!

Posted by Mr. Foot Fetish | August 4, 2014 4:21 PM

There is public transport to Jones Beach, but it's a pain in the ass - you have to take the LIRR to Freeport and then the bus to Jones Beach

Posted by Anonymous | August 5, 2014 11:10 AM

ABOVE ME

That kind of knowledge will keep you on the post city bench.
