Weezer at Firefly 2014 (more by Dana (distortion) Yavin)
Weezer

The story of Weezer's Rivers Cuomo extended break from being a famous rock frontman to attend Harvard University is now getting turned into a sitcom on Fox. Deadline reports:

Psych creator Steve Franks has teamed with rock musician Rivers Cuomo for DeTour, a single-camera comedy inspired by the Weezer frontman's real-life experiences. The project, from 20th Century Fox TV, has landed at Fox with a put pilot commitment. DeTour centers on a thirtysomething rock star who, unable to rationalize his success and worried that he may not have the tools to repeat it, walks away from the spotlight at the height of his fame in an effort to rediscover the parts of his life he missed while he was busy becoming a massive success.

...The series would mirror and embellish Cuomo's journey with a fictional character and the small band of misfit friends that make it possible for one another to get through these formative years.

I guess maybe it's better than a Broadway musical? Maybe?

In other news, Weezer's new Ric Ocasek-produced album, Everything Will Be Alright in the End (due 10/7 via Repulbic), will feature Best Coast singer Bethany Cosentino on the track "Go Away." A clip of that was recently revealed and can be streamed below...

Wonder if it will include a half-Japanese girl

I'm guessing the first two seasons will be really good, but then it will stay on the air for 15 really mediocre seasons.

Sorry to disappoint you Rivers, but Brian May legitimately had greater success, walked away from greater notoriety, and got a PhD in Astrophysics at Imperial College London.

So, there's that.

Next week on "DeTour": Rivers continues spending 18 hours a day in a closet meditating while the rest of the gang sends Matt Sharp increasingly expensive and ostentatious gifts in an attempt to convince him to let them join The Rentals. Special guest appearance by Kitty Pryde (played by Kathy Griffin).

1:37 - LOL

This isn't entirely true. They MIGHT make a pilot, which in turn MIGHT make it to air. The chances are pretty slim of it actually happening. I'm guessing this story will quietly disappear and we won't hear about it ever again.

...and the world just got a little bit douchier!

Sorry to disappoint YOU, 1:48. Brian May didn't walk away from ANYTHING. His meal ticket, Freddie Mercury died.

Good god!

John Deacon walked away with dignity and honored Freddy's legacy. Brian's touring with a guy who went on american idol and LOST.

So May decided to get a PhD in astrophysics, not just take any job he could find cuz ya know, he didn't make any money from Queen. He had to get that PhD!!!

You really are a dumb fuck.
