The Rosebuds, Jesse Marchant, Dana Buoy @ Rough Trade
North Carolina duo The Rosebuds are relative indie rock veterans at this point but their anthemic brand of pop seems to be in step with the Zeitgeist currently. They do “whoa ohs” better than most and new LP Sand + Silence was produced by Justin Vernon.
Temples, Spires @ Asbury Lanes
UK psych band band Temples released their debut album earlier this, which is slick but well-done Britpop. They sound great live, too, and are well matched with Brooklyn band Spires tonight.
Brian Degraw, Rioux, Stephon Alexander, Archie Pelago, Dutch E Germ @ Baby’s All Right
Tonight’s Baby’s show is a great showcase of the eccentric sounds of NYC’s electronic scene. Gang Gang Dance’s Brian Degraw headlines, and the show is also the album release party for Rioux and Stephon Alexander’s collaborative LP Here Comes Now. The bill’s rounded out by Mister Saturday Night associates Archie Pelago and Brian’s former GGD bandmate Dutch E Germ.
Bad Rabbits, Kent Odessa, Johnny Stimson @ Brooklyn Night Bazaar
Brooklyn Night Bazaar offers weekends of local artisan shopping, gourmet eats, beer and wine, ping pong, black light minigolf and music all under one Greenpoint roof. Tonight is a lineup is headlined by Boston funk-rock combo Bad Rabbits.
Cassandra Wilson, Campbell Brothers @ Damrosch Bandshell
Part of Lincoln Center Out of Doors, this show features jazz vocal legend Cassandra Wilson, and steel guitar maestros the Campbell Brothers performing Coltrane’s masterwork, A Love Supreme. Free.
Amanda X, Two Inch Astronaut, Wing Dam, Cousin Brian @ Death By Audio
Those who dig ’90s style indie rock — Tuscadero or Blake Babies for example — will definitely dig Philly trio Amanda X whose new album does this very well. Also on the bill: quality Maryland post-hardcore outfit Two Inch Astronaut.
Full Moon Fest w/ Delorean, The Knocks, Claptone, The Aston Shuffle, Son Lux, Le Youth, Penguin Prison, Young & Sick, Chela, JDH & Dave P, Wave Racer, EMEFE, Panam Wedding @ Governors Island
The fourth annual Full Moon Fest goes down on Governors Island today with an electronic-oriented lineup of Balearic pop band Delorean, art pop musician Son Lux, indie-R&B band Young & Sick, Australian bass dropper Wave Racer and more.
Pictureplane, Octo Octa, Future Punx, Germans @ Palisades
Electronic artist and Brooklyn DIY mainstay, Picturelane, headlines this bill that also includes neo new wavers Future Punx.
Asian Dub Foundation, Taylor McFerrin @ Prospect Park Bandshell
The free Celebrate Brooklyn shows in Prospect Park continue tonight with long-running English electronica band Asian Dub Foundation and Brainfeeder’s Taylor McFerrin.
Black Bananas, Shockwave Riderz @ South Street Seaport
This week’s edition of Seaport Music Festival is the trippiest of the run with Black Bananas — currently mixing electronics, garage rock and questionable pharmaceuticals — and and the more straight-up garage of Shockwave Riderz.
Funky Meters, Gedeon Luke @ Brooklyn Bowl
Legendary New Orleans groove merchants Funky Meters are still going, and bring the dynamite tonight.
Jackson Browne, Jackshit @ City Winery
Currently touring amphitheaters with John Fogerty, songwriting and mellow ’70s legend Jackson plays a much more intimate show tonight. Will he play “Lawyers in Love”?
Nellie McKay @ 54 Below
Charming singer-songwriter is at this supper club all week, debuting her new show, “A GIRL NAMED BILL: The Life and Times of Billy Tipton.”

This year’s Summer’s Laughter tour (I mean Summer Slaughter) is a bit less laughable than usual with notable sets from Morbid Angel, Dying Fetus, Goatwhore and Origin.
The Zombies @ BB King Blues Club
The Zombies made some of the best and most influential baroque pop that there is with their 1968 album, Odyssey and Oracle and their early singles. Their tours today don’t always include as much Odyssey material as we’d like, but they’re still nothing short of a great time.
Blowfly, Runny, Citizen Blast Kane @ Grand Victory
Ah, the weird, weird world of Blowfly. Clarence Reid has had varied career, writing and producing for Sam & Dave, KC & the Sunshine Band, and Betty Wright. He’s also released singles under his own name since 1963. But he’s probably best known to the planet as Blowlfy, “the first dirty rapper” and a bizarro superhero that loves sex. Tonight should be…something.
