Gramercy Arms @ Rough Trade
A NYC indie rock supergroup fronted by Dave Derby (The Dambuilders) and also featuring Sean Eden (Luna) and Kevin March (Shudder to Think, GbV), Gramercy Arms just released their second album, The Seasons of Love. It’s loaded ’70s singer-songwriter vibes (think Todd Rundgren or Harry Nilsson) plus a load of guests, including Derby’s old Dambuilders bandmate Joan “As Policewoman” Wasser, Tanya Donnelly, Matthew Caws, Letters to Cleo frontperson Kay Hanley and more. Tonight’s the record release show and you need to buy a copy of the album to get into the show (one CD or LP gets two people in).

The Cult @ The Paramount
Goths-turned-rawkers The Cult bring their mystic riffs — and hits like “Fire Woman,” “Love Removal Machine” and “She Sells Sanctuary” — to Long Island tonight.

Chloe Sunshine, Rey Pila, Wild Ones, Dark Rift, Johnny Lewis @ Pianos
Mexico City band Rey Pila will soon be on tour with Interpol, playing large rooms on the West Coast. First, though, they have an August residency at Pianos, this being your second chance to see them.

Jody Porter (of Fountains of Wayne), David Milone, Boy Morgan @ Bowery Electric
Jody Porter is a guitar-pop vet, having logged time in The Belltower (with Britta Phillips) and Fountains of Wayne. On his own, things lean a little more psych. Tonight’s show, part of a residency, also features onetime Radio 4 singer/guitarist David Milone and talented, ’60s-loving group Boy Morgan.

Tori Amos @ Beacon Theatre
Since the early ’90s Tori Amos has moved between alternative-tinged piano pop, trip hop, orchestral music and more. On this year’s Unrepentant Geraldines she’s in a piano pop mode that’s somewhat of a return to form. This is her first of two Beacon Theatre shows on her current tour supporting the new LP.

For laughs, check out the NYC Comedy calendar too.
