It’s already no secret that UK noise popsters Joanna Gruesome are fans of ’90s emo, given their I Hate Myself cover on their split with Perfect Pussy, and now singer Alanna McArdle has taken that love further. She contributes guest vocals to ’90s-era emo vets The Jazz June‘s new single, “Ain’t It Strange,” which will appear on their new album, After the Earthquake. The song choice makes sense to have Alanna on it too — it’s fuzzy guitar pop isn’t that far removed from the kind of stuff she plays in Joanna Gruesome. Jazz June singer Andrew Low told DIY Mag of the collaboration:

I was looking for a certain sound for ‘ain’t it strange’, and at the same time I was listening to Joanna Gruesome’s album Weird Sister 100 times a day. ‘Sugarcrush’ came on the radio one day at work and I just said, “Fuck it, I’m going to write her on Facebook and see if she’ll sing on the track.” She wrote back and said she remembered The Jazz June from an old indie mixtape someone made her as a teenager. We recorded her vocals in my closet and they are the perfect addition to the song.

The new album, produced by Evan Weiss, is due out November 11 via Topshelf. The Jazz June are also reissuing their classic 2000 album, The Medicine, on October 28 via Topshelf and Evan Weiss’ Storm Chaser label.

The Jazz June’s only two upcoming shows at the moment are a TBA FFF Nites show in Austin and the official 2014 BrooklynVegan CMJ showcase happening October 25 at Baby’s All Right with Pity Sex, Beach Slang, Cayetana and Sport. Tickets for the Brooklyn show are on sale now. The Jazz June’s on at 11:10 PM, almost the exact same slot Joanna Gruesome played at the BV-CMJ show at Baby’s last year.

Joanna Gruesome have an upcoming UK show with Perfect Pussy.
