John Reis teaming up w/ The Blind Shake for instrumental surf rock album & tour (dates, video)

by Andrew Sacher

John Shake

The great John Reis (Rocket from the Crypt, Drive Like Jehu, Hot Snakes, etc) has teamed up with hard-hitting garage rock trio The Blind Shake to pay tribute to classic surf rock instrumentals on a new collaborative album, Modern Surf Classics, coming out on January 27 via John’s Swami Records. Get a taste of the album from the appropriately hazy and vintage-looking video for the single “Brown Room” below. Artwork and tracklist below too.

The band, dubbed Swami John Reis & The Blind Shake, will also be hitting the road in support of the album in February, playing NYC on February 25 at Saint Vitus and February 26 at Mercury Lounge. Tickets for Merc go on sale today (11/20) at noon, and a tickets for Vitus are on sale here. All dates are listed below.

John’s had a busy year with a one-off Drive Like Jehu reunion, and continued reunions from Rocket From the Crypt and Hot Snakes.

The Blind Shake have a brand new album out and will be in Montreal for M for Montreal this weekend, before bringing their tour to NYC on November 25 at Cake Shop with Caddywhompus (tix at door) and November 26 at Baby’s All Right with Wax Witches (tix here). They’re also on board once again for SXSW.
