Andrew Jackson Jihad announce tour w/ Chumped & more; PUP told us their favorite LPs of 2014

Andrew Jackson Jihad
AJJ

Folk punks Andrew Jackson Jihad returned this year with their fifth album, Christmas Island, and they’ve now announced they’ll continue supporting it with a 2015 tour. It’s a pretty stacked tour, with support from their Australian SideOneDummy labelmates The Smith Street Band, their American labelmate Jeff Rosenstock, and Brooklyn DIY pop punks Chumped. The A.V. Club-presented tour hits NYC on March 20 at Warsaw. Tickets for that show (and all other dates) go on sale Friday (12/12). All dates are listed below.

As usual, you’ve got other chances to catch Chumped in their hometown before that. They celebrate their great debut record, Teenage Retirement, on Saturday (12/13) at Suburbia, also with Jeff Rosenstock, as well as Cayetana, Chris Gethard and Adult Dude (tix at door). Then, they open for Plow United on 12/30 at Acheron (tickets). If you haven’t checked out Teenage Retirement, you can change that by listening below.

Both Chumped and Andrew Jackson Jihad made Jeff Rosenstock’s 2014 year-end list. Speaking of year-end lists, SideOneDummy, and Chumped, Chumped’s SideOneDummy-signed recent tourmates PUP also gave us a list of their favorite albums of 2014. And (wait for it), it includes Cayetana, who play Chumped’s release show (and whose release show Chumped played) and who toured with PUP when both bands opened for The Menzingers (who have dates coming up) who it also includes!

Check out their whole list/entertaining commentary, with the AJJ dates, below…

PUP’s Favorite Albums of 2014

Cloud Nothings – Here and Nowhere Else
Scrappy and melodic and catchy and heavy all at the same time and it’s everything that I love about music. The fact that they topped Attack On Memory blows my mind.

Single Mothers – Negative Qualities
The lyrics and delivery on this record are so incredible. You can almost taste Drew’s self loathing and disgust with himself and everyone around him. Fuck you’re angry, bud. Also bonus points for having the best live show.

Joyce Manor – Never Hungover Again
Hey dingus, I’ve got an idea. Maybe if you don’t want people to crowd surf at your shows, you should write shittier songs.

Taylor Swift – 1989
I like to drink a bottle of wine alone in my room and sing along to Blank Space at the top of my lungs and then throw up before the album gets to Shake It Off.

Phantogram – Voices
Phantogram take elements of hip-hop, indie rock, electro, dance music – and somehow manage to make something that sounds nothing like any of that. That is an impressive feat in the last few years, when it’s seemed like any dumbass with a computer and a couple of synthesizers could end up on a massive festival stage.

Nehruvian Doom – S/T
A lot of rappers have focused their lyrics on a lot of trivial shit lately. None of that noise here. MF Doom and Bishop Nehru. Half enigma, half phenom, 100% righteous. Plus, the LP is the only rap record I’ve purchased in the last three years that came with a download code.

The Menzingers – Rented World
It’s the songwriting, stupid. Good songwriting beats everything always.

Cayetana – Nervous Like Me
One of the best things about playing music all the time is that you get to meet and tour with people who go from being unknown to your favourite band in a matter of weeks. Cayetana are one of the freshest and most lyrically-insightful bands we’ve ever gotten to play with. And they are the sweetest goofballs on the planet. We love them.

Mastodon – Once More ‘Round the Sun
Shotgun weilding guitar player with a face tattoo. Forgetting the album, that’s all I would need to be sold on Mastodon. But, being a long time fan, I know better than that. With this album they prove that they are like a glass of fine wine. Getting better (at what they do) with age. Except this glass of wine is cut with buckshot, distilled THC, and a jigger of Bacardi 151. Punishing riffs, hooks, and an amazing sense of humour. Mastodon is key.

Fucked up – Glass Boys
“i like the new fucked up record.. is that this year?” – Nestor
