Noel Gallagher's High Flying Birds shares video for Johnny Marr collaboration, touring before Governors Ball (dates)

Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds will release their second album, Chasing Yesterday, on March 2. The new single from the LP is “Ballad of the Mighty I” which features longtime friend Johnny Marr on guitar. Noel told The Guardian about the collaboration:

I tried to get him to play on the last album but it never happened. So when I put this track together and knew he would be perfect for it I called him and asked if I could send him the rough mix. He said: ‘No, I don’t want to hear it. I’m just going to react to it on the day.’ He didn’t even want any pointers. Well, that was brave of him. He just arrived with two guitars and a bag of effects pedals. And I have to say, he’s unbelievable. He’s way up there, on another level to the rest of us. The result is a burst of energy that helped make Mighty I one of the best songs I’ve ever written.

The song is a nice bit of string-laden disco rock, and you can watch the video for the song which plays off Gallagher’s noted disdain for the artform. (Watch edited highlight’s of Noel’s commentary from the Oasis DVD below.) The director appearing in the video calls him “Liam” and, when Noel proves uncooperative, lets him know “Chris Martin did 12 takes!” There are also possible nods to Verve and Radiohead videos, but Johnny Marr does not make an appearance. Watch it below.

As mentioned, Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds will play the 2015 Governors Ball. That will finish off a spring North American tour for the band. All dates are listed below.
