You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Hop Along, Beach Slang, Aye Nako, Ryley Walker @ Baby’s All Right
Tonight’s the next BrooklynVegan-curated installment of Red Bull Sound Select and we couldn’t be more excited for the lineup. Two killer Philly rock bands, Hop Along and Beach Slang, co-headline, and for support there’s poppy NYC punks Aye Nako and psych-folk guitar great Ryley Walker (playing as a duo with a bassist). It’s $3 at the door with RSVP, $10 without, and all door money is going to CancerCare. Even if you RSVP, entry is first come, first served, so come early to make sure you get in. Hope to see you there!

Music Blues, Ice Balloons, Call of The Wild @ Union Pool
Music Blues is the droney rock project of Harvey Milk’s Stephen Tanner (backed by ex-members of The Men and Born Against), who released their recent album, Things Haven’t Gone Well, last year via Thrill Jockey. The rest of the bill is similarly avant-rock with the TVOTR-related Ice Balloons and Call of the Wild.

Nick Hakim, Solo Woods, Okay Kaya @ Mercury Lounge
Heavy on vibe and atmospherics, Nick Hakim’s music dips into James Blake-ish territory sometimes but he’s got his own sound. Tonight is the second show of his January residency at Mercury Lounge.

Guster @ Rough Trade
Long-running Boston alt-rock band Guster release their seventh album,  Evermotion, today an are celebrating tonight with two release shows. The 6 PM show is free, the 9 PM ticketed show is sold out.

Shawn Colvin and Mary Chapin Carpenter @ City Winery
Last night Colvin played City Winery with Steve Earle; tonight she plays with another Americana legend, Mary Chapin Carpenter.

RJD2, D.V.S. @ Brooklyn Bowl
RJD2’s beats are behind some of the 2000s’ best underground hip hop, and he’s got plenty of solo material to move the floors with tonight too. Night 1 of 2.

Quarterbacks, Long Beard, Sitcom, The Realbads @ Silent Barn
Quarterbacks have a new LP on the way which is a similar kind of punkish indie pop to Radiator Hospital. If you’re going tonight, it’s worth showing up early to catch The Realbands (in solo mode), who make catchy indie rock.

Melanie @ BB King’s
Folk singer Melanie, who performed at Woodstock and is probably best known for “Brand New Key” among other songs in her four-decade-plus career, is still kicking and plays NYC tonight.

For laughs, check out the NYC Comedy calendar too.
