Savages-14

What's going on Saturday? (Savages, LE1F, Guardian Alien, Giraffage, Horrendous, Crocodiles, Elisa Ambrogio & more)

Savages @ Baby’s All Right, 1/19/215 (more by Gretchen Robinette)
Savage

You can browse our full NYC show calendar for all of tonight’s shows, but here are some highlights…

Savages, Nick Zinner @ Saint Vitus
It’s the last night of UK postpunk devotees Savages’ nine-show (three-venue) NYC residency where they’ve been working out new material. Tonight’s opener is Yeah Yeah Yeahs guitarist Nick Zinner. Sold out.

LE1F, Sick Feeling, Dark Blue, On A Clear Day, Mess Kid (DJ set), Matt Werth (DJ set) @ Aviv
Tonight’s the release party for local hardcore band Sick Feeling’s debut album, and they’re joined by an excellent, extremely genre-diverse bill. Headlining is rap eccentric Le1f, right before Sick Feeling is Philly post-punks Dark Blue (who may at least be kind of “punk” but their romantic baritone is far from Sick Feeling’s hoarse screams), and opening the night is ambient duo On A Clear Day.

Marshall Allen and The Sun Ra Arkestra @ Sugarcube
If you’re looking for something different to do today, Northern Spy Records is celebrating its fifth anniversary today at this inflatable venue down by South Street Seaport. There is creative workshop with Maestro Marshall Allen from 2-4 PM and then Sun Ra Arkestra will perform at 7 PM. Free.

Crocodiles, Lazyeyes, The Teen Age, Shark Week @ Brooklyn Night Bazaar
Somewhere between Spacemen 3 and JAMC lies the sound of California transplants Crocodiles. They headline this free show tonight that features a nice lineup of better-than-most Brooklyn indie rock.

Horrendous, Artificial Brain, Throaat, Kosmodemonic @ The Acheron
Horrendous returned last year with Ecydysis, an excellent album of melodic death metal that’s accessible but without sacrificing darkness and aggression. Tonight’s their first NYC show since its release, and they’re joined by a killer lineup of local support bands.

Elisa Ambrogio (of Magik Markers), Nathan Bowles, Pal Berta, Surfbort @ Silent Barn
Where Magik Markers remain dedicated to noise, Elisa Ambrogio’s 2014 solo album The Immoralist features some downright catchy songs.

Sunflower Bean, Laced, Kissing Is A Crime, Lightning Bug @ Baby’s All Right
Teenage NYC trio Sunflower Bean have been ubiquitous on local show lineups for the past year. If you see live music a lot, chances are you’ve seen them or at least been at a show where they were on the bill. The group just released their debut EP, Show Me Your Seven Secrets, and tonight’s the record release show.

Big Muff Radio, Slonk Donkerson, Sofa Club, Kitten (DJ Set) @ Baby’s All Right
After the Sunflower Bean release show, Big Muff Radio will have their own release party for new album, Life is Easy. Doors are at midnight and your $8 entry gets you a cassette of the new album.

Giraffage, Spazzkid, Maxo @ Music Hall of Williamsburg
R&B deconstructor Giraffage released the No Reason EP this past November, and tonight he brings his tour in support of it to NYC. Sold out.

Guardian Alien, Horse Lords, Banned Books, Palm @ Palisades
Palisades hosts a good bill of mostly experimental-leaning music tonight with Liturgy drummer Greg Fox’s Guardian Alien project, Baltimore weirdos Horse Lords, Philly avant-popsters Banned Books, and eccentric indie rockers Palm.

The B-52s @ Capitol Theatre
Coming up quickly on their 40th anniversary, The B-52’s still bring the party with a catalogue of classic dance-friendly postpunky new wave.

World/Inferno Friendship Society, Everymen @ Santos Party House
World Inferno Friendship Society have been mixing punk, klezmer, cabaret and more since 1996. The band’s latest album, This Packed Funeral, was released late 2014.

Motion City Soundtrack, The Early November, Better Off @ Starland Ballroom
Motion City Soundtrack continue their Commit This to Memory 10th anniversary tour in Jersey tonight, and making this one extra worth the trip, back-in-action emo band The Early November open.
